I think a lot of xp users have these same problems but i cant find anything useful about them on google so i'll try my luck here.

Sound - 90% of the times, if i play an MPEG(and sometimes some other files like avi, divx etc) the sound starts(along with the picture) but then goes away after 2 seconds. I know there isnt something wrong with my speaker/headphone since it plays other files fine. The volume is up coz i've tested the volume before and after i play the file(and its fine). It isnt the player becuase ALL players do the same, i've tried about 5(Windows Media Player, Real Media Player, DIVX Player, Quicktime and some more) yet nothing...

Random Reboots - My computer just randomly reboots when ever it likes. It used to be because of the W32.Blaster worm, but i've fixed it(and have reformatted my hard drive about 10 times after that for reasons...) Its not memory usage because it happens even when i'm not running an application. Its not a certain program that causes it, it happens whenever. It could even happen as i type this out...When i reload it gives me a message saying the system has recoverd from a serious error, but doesn't give me the report this to microsoft thing. It has some relation to the file system.xls which people with similar problems to me suffer from aswell.
Don't know anything about the sound problem... never ran into it before... As for the random rebooting, that is usually a problem of bad memory... Check out http://www.memtest86.com/ to test your memory.

1. That would either be your registry or your sound card.

2. That would be your heating problem, buy another fan or set an icepack ontop or around your computer, then tell us the results.

And only say most XP users have these problems if they tell you they do. I certainly don't.

wot do u mean my registry and i doubt its my sound card because it plays most sounds well, just not DVD'S(original ones) and most MPEGS.

And yes i do know wot registry is just dont know excatly wot to do to fix the specific prob.
Even DVD's do excatly the same as the MPEG files. I'm almost certain thats its some sort windows update but not sure which one. MP3's, MIDI's, WAVE's, AVI'S work fine. please help me the sound is actually driving me crazy.

The last resort:

If you have a soundcard that isn't onboard:
Disable your onboard audio, if you haven't already. Turn your computer completely off and open it up, remove the soundcard and push it back in fimrly, but being gentle.

If you have onboard audio:
Go out and buy a soundcard. They're SoundBlaster Live Cards (That are fairly new.) entitled SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 SurroundSound. It works for everything, 2.1 speakers (Two speakers.) and headphones, so don't bother thinking it only works for surroundsound. I bought mine for 20-30 when the price on the site said over $60. Good deal.

y would it be my sound card if windows is indicating it works fine and that it can play other sound files?

plus i cant open my comp because it has a gurantee.

You can't even open the case?

You got screwed on that one.

Anyway, soundcards can have the ability to work, and say that they're fine, but be missing a few things.

It says it's fine because it's still working, but it's not COMPLETELY fine, it's decoder could be faulty for MPEG.
In response to Karasu Kami
then y does it play the first 5 secs of the video then stop?
In response to DeathAwaitsU
That's probably something wrong with the movie file.
In response to Karasu Kami
no coz it happens on every file and i know all those files are fine.

plus it happens on original brand new dvds.

Figure it out for yourself if you deny whatever i say then.
In response to Karasu Kami
i'm not denying its just they dont apply to me...

Its quite possible he is correct. You really should not ask for advice and then discount all possibilities given.
