Im just wondering, what is better for my game:
- Lots of weapons with the same stats (ie same Attack and all that)
- One weapon per set of stats
It seems like a pretty obvious question, but I know at least a few people who get annoyed when they have too many to choose from.
Also I was just wondering how many weapons would be adequate for each type?
(I have Primary (Rifles), Secondary (Pistols) and Hand To Hand (Knives, Swords))

wait, what do you mean? Meaning lots of weapons that have attack adders and other stuff, then 1 weapon that can be upgraded?

Hmmmm, I just looked back at my post and realised maybe it wasn't a good idea to work on my game while drunk :).
Anyway what i think i ment was: Should i have a few different weapons in the same bracket (ie pistolOne and pistolTwo with attack of 4, pistolThree and pistolFour with attack of 5, etc) Or should i have one weapon per bracket (ie pistolOne with attack of 4, pistolTwo with attack of 5, pistolThree with attack of 6 etc) I hope thats a little more clearer... (Its a simple concept in my head but i just cant seem to find the words for it) |

There's no point in having multiple weapons that do the exact same thing.

I think if you're asking questions like this on a design forum you must not have much of a design plan for your game at all! If I were you I'd stop and think these things out, deciding what you want, and not be asking on a forum that knows nothing of your game's details or of how you envision it. Its your game, you decide.

as a matter of fact i have my entire game planned, mapped and built. at the moment im just trying to tweak a few things so that it will be more accepted in the BYOND community. im sure there is a million gamers out there whove played a game and thought to themselves "now if they had just done this, they would have had a perfect game" and forgive me if im wrong but isnt this what this forum is aimed at addressing?

If that's the case, then you should probably set up a forum for the game itself, so that people who play it can comment specifically about what they liked and didn't like about it. That way they'll have some clue what kind of impact decisions like the one you've got here will have ne the game.

Well, since I assume the primary purpose of the game is to kill things, why bother with variants that all do the same thing? In an RPG where appearance matters, their might be a reason, but in a kill fest, no one really cares. They just want the biggest, baddest gun.

If you have pistol1 as 3 attack and pistol2 at 5 attack, people will pick pistol2 usually. You should have weapons with improved firing rates: pistol1 - 3 attack, 5 rounds second; pistol2 - 10 attack, 1 round a second. This adds a bit of customization and stategy, slow and strong or fast and weak.

Even that is offset. They could do 15 damage a second as opposed to 5. That's a no-brainer.

I think it would be better because you could have more weapons involved in the game for more personal customization. For example: You can choose between the Mac 10 that has 6 attack, or you could pick the Magnum which also has 6 attack. --§-- |

Um... it's really not much customisation. There are much more fun things to do in terms of customising than choose between differently named weapons which are otherwise carbon copies of each other. =P

Choosing your appearance, for one thing. Different colours, different hair styles, different clothes...
