I know that the Owner can't get money in a fan game, but if the owner put a donation verb for paypal for someone else like a host would that be acceptable? Thanks.

Hmm, i'm not sure if I explained that good. Maybe I did and just not understanding your answer. If I want someone to put a donation verb to me in a game for being a host but their game is a Fan Game, is that allowed?
[Edit] Instead of the what I mentioned before, could the owner have a verb that links to my website? |

If a fangame wants to be listed on the hub it can't make any money in any way shape or form regardless of any expenses requiered to keep it up and running. If any expenses exist the owner will have to pay out of their own pocket and can't make it up through chargeing for the game. |

How about being linked to my site, which happens to have a Donation link on it?

How about being linked to my site, which happens to have a Donation link on it? You're still making money off of it. That's included in the any way, shape, or form part. If you want to risk making money off something that isn't legally yours remove it from the hub and get players through some other means. |

Alright, so even having a link to my site isn't allowed if I plan to have a donation link.

Some idiot seems to think that if a "Naruto" game that got removed for charging cash got reemoved off the Fan games part, and put on the unplublished page, he thinks that sinces its not on the fan games page the ownner can still charge for things in the game.

Well I know that's wrong, it's just i'm a host and if I can mooch (as in get some advertisement) off a game i'm hosting that would be cool. I am planning on putting the donation thing on the site, so i'm still confused...

I dont know this is right, but if the donation verb is on your site and there is only 1 verb for all games (and u have some original games out that also link to the same page) as long as it dont specify the games name i think its ok becuase its collecting contributions from original content that you own.
Thats just my view on this dont take it as correct but it does make sense |

um, no it does not make sense- getting *any* kind of financial support for a game that contains copyrighted material is illegal in the eyes of BYOND (and in the majority of the gaming industry at last check).
if you truely want to make money, then do not publish the game in the BYOND Hub. this is meant to protect DanTom from any liability they might get in trouble with for publishing games with copyrighted material that charge for the use of that game. |

But let's say he only had a link saying donate X money, how would that be financial support for the game? It would just be asking for money for no real reason would it not?

what part of "no" is so hard to understand? no buttons, links, minimums, maximums, maidens in fancy dress, or mistreatment of clowns are to be used in the BYOND hub to solicit money for any reason if the game contains copyrighted material - a fan game. and as far as I can recall, this includes inside the game itself. if you are so desparate for cash, put the link on your website and do not publish the game on the BYOND hub - really quite simple ya know.

A plain "give me money" link placed in association with the game will still appear to be asking for donations to the game. And in fact it WILL be, because there's no other reason to put it there.
The answer is still (and will always be) a definite "no". |

if the game contains copyrighted material - a fan game. Just to clarify, digi means material copyrighted by other people. The act of publishing your game makes original content your copyright. All BYOND games are copyrighted regardless of the presence or absence of pretty little © symbols, unless the programmer specificly puts it in the public domain. Refer to http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/ if you have more questions about copyright. |

You should run a liquor store for minors.
"No, officer, I didn't sell the kid beer! I just didn't notice when he took a case of beer, and he gave me a bunch of money for no real reason." |

Since this is brought up, I might of as well say something.
Some guy ask me if I had paypal and I said "no, why?". He then said "oh because i was about to donate for your game". I didn't take the donation, donation for my game wasn't even in my head since I made it. So this situation would also be wrong too right? |

if your game was a fanbased game then it would have been wrong to accept it

since BYOND cannot control donations like that (nor do they want to), it's your risk to accept such donations- accepting money for fangames is generally thought of as a no-no in the gaming industry (though, admittedly, there is some grey area concerning whether you make a profit or not- but this is beyond the scope of this community).
the only issue here is that asking for donations within a BYOND game and on the BYOND hub (via banners, buttons, links, verbs, whatever) is something that BYOND does not accept, for their own protection. |
