Psh! I'll show you intimidation!

That's right. Run for the hills!

Wow, you are right... Flick must be one of those people who look like could take you in a fight, even when you are trying to run him over with a steam-roller, and yet beat you in a game of chess the next day.
Is acting civil towards people really that hard? The BYOND Staff don't care if you outright hate anyone else on the forum, as long as you keep it civil.

Half Most of the byond community that posts doesn't act civil.
Byond has become like a concentration camp. You take one lil' step out of line and you are riddled with bullets.

Honestly though the mods really need to cool it, sure acting like a little kid can scare away members, but so can strict mods. You really need to be more laid back, cause I mean cmon, a week ban for calling someone a loser in a joking way, that is way, way, WAY to harsh.

How many other places give week long bans? Usually if you get banned it's perminant, and there's a three strike rule in reguard to warnings.
On lots of forums the moderators would look at this topic, decide Shades is too much trouble to keep around, ban him and delete the topic.
FileSoups' Forum is the best run one I've ever seen. Best mods/admins around.

Ask 'em for tips, eh? ;)

Yea, but here's the question: What if the mods and the person you're calling a loser doesn't know that you're joking? It can really be offense to them if they're sensitive.

And here's some wisdom from a FF game! :)

"When people have power, they use that power. Give them too much power and they'll seek more."

I haven't seen alot let alone any of this happening with the mods. If you don't like the rules, don't post.

I don't think that the mods are patrolling more often or being stricter. I think that people are screwing around more. Some of our more childish members scared off some of the ones we liked and who kept this place cheerful.

Like who? I don't know of a single person who was ever "scared off" by people acting childish.
Someone called someone else a loser, and they got a week ban.

But then another person called someone a loser, and only got a warning.

If your going to act like a commie, at least do it correctly.

Of course you don't, they were scared off. =P

It actually is a very serious problem. It's very hard to attract and keep new developers because this is meant to be a developer forum not a daycare center. How can you take a language seriously if (what you see as being) their core developer base act like little kids?

Ive noticed a over all grumpyness in the forums, people getting banned or yelled at for calling others loosers, or other kinds of things, stuff, that, even in kindergarden we wouldnt get yelled at for.

That's because kindergarteners aren't expected to have enough control of their social skills to handle polite company.

The short answer to your question of what's with the mods lately is that for a few days now they've been discussing what to do with a certain user who's been rude for a prolonged period, who has ignored several warnings about his behavior, and who hasn't managed to learn what is and is not acceptable language in spite of said warnings. This person has recently been flaming on a pretty consistent basis.

If you're upset because you've been on the receiving end of more warnings yourself, this might be a good time to finally consider that the problem might not be the moderators.

Ohh ohh! (I'm guessing) It's me! HAhaha! :P

And if that's true, it's not that i'm ignoring warnings or refusing to learn. I just don't care. o_o

Likely enough that's a case of two different contexts. The first one could have been (and likely was) a major repeat offender. There's also the fact to consider that not all moderators act equally, though overall they keep things pretty much within the same guidelines.

Even though Flick looks like Santa Claus after a battle with a bottle of hair dye, I would still not mess with him.(Come on though, rosey red cheeks and a thick hairy beard. It must rock having him around for Christmas.)

Well, JordanUl did say that they scared off some that he liked and that made the community cheerful, somehow, so he must know one, which is why I asked him. Either that, or he just made it up as a failed attempt at proving a point.

Well, the main devlopers don't act childish. Besides a small amount of "childish outbursts" on other parts of the forum, the Off Topic section seems to be the main place where those little flame wars take place. But Off Topic isn't where people who need any type of help, inspiration, or suggestions on their game. That's what the other parts of the forum's are for.

Many great developers, or people who assist in the development of games (icon artists, mappers, ect...), started off as immature little children. So being a too strict in some cases, as forum mods have done time and time again, may run away potential developers, just as easily as people acting childish may.
