You might have a "hidden" firewall inside Windows XP, I'm kinda lazy to explain how to turn it off but search the forums to find it, or search the Windows help for Firewall.

I have the same problem. No matter what I do I can't host. I went to almost every internet connection thingie I could find and turned off the firewall. (Which is obviously poitnless since there's only one connection, of which I obviously turned off the firewall) After that didn't work, I figured it must've been something wrong with my router, so I went to that. No such luck. I did everything I could to the router and it still didn't work...

Your DSL Modem acts as a Router itself its just like mine. You'll have to go inside it and open a port .
|
You may need to configure the built-in Windows XP firewall, especially if you have service pack 2 installed. See [link] for instructions.
You may also need to configure port forwarding on your DSL modem. See any documentation that came with it for instructions. If you can't find the manual, you may be able to search for it on the internet. |

Try and call your DSL Company and ask 1st if it is alright to host (I have cable, and they generally don't allow you, I found that out the hard way, they threatened to cut me off, but I still host from time to time). If yes ask him if you might need to foward certain ports to allow hosting. I'm not sure but I think a DSL Modem acts like a router, and thats what I had to do. If the helper asks which ports, tell him pref. 4000+, the less ports the less chance of being pinged with a script (that happened to me...it sucks).

Generally, most routers are set-up when you buy them with a firewall so it can be complicated to host with it. You could disable it however (I'm assuming that you have more than one computer connected to this router; hense why you have one) the computers connected to it are prone to viruses while you are hosting your game even though the aren't really hosting it. It is because with a router, you're all using the same IP which makes viruses spread real easy if you happen to recieve one. I wouldn't recommend you host.

i had this same problem for like 2 months, and i know how to fix it, first, go to your C: drive and go to program files and find byond, delete the whole folder, then go to www.byond.com/download and do full installation and the top one, not update, full installataion, and in the game you are hosting you must have the hub destination set. Once you do that it should work, it took me a while to figure it out XD, I hope it works, and tell me if it does plz
