Did anyone see this documentary?
This guy set out to prove McDonals was extremely unhealthy, and McDonalds was falsely marketing their product. The guy ate nothing but Mcdonald's for a month, if he'd have done it for another week, he probably would have died.
Did anyone see the part with the kids they were interviewing? Basically, he held these signs up with pictures on them, one was Jesus Christ, one was Ronald Mcdonald, another was the Wendy's girl, and there were a few more in there. only two of the kids recognized Jesus, but they all recognized Ronald Mcdonald.
They also had a group of adults, and tried to get them to recite the pledge of allegiance. They had to try abouf six times. The Big Mac catch phrase? The guy wasn't even done with his sentence and one of them had already blurted it out correctly.
I loved this movie, because they quoted McDonalds claiming that their food could be part of a balanced diet, when even their healthy items are unhealthy. Their parfaits have more calories than their hot fudge sundays, their salads have almost 100% of the fat and sugar intake of an average person, and their cheese is made to be addictive.
Before I saw this with some friends, everybody thought that I was an idiot for calling McDonalds idolitrous... Oh, how the tables have turned.
Anybody got a conflicting view, or even anything to add?

Yah, it made me mad when i heard about them putting addictive substances into their foods. I haven't seen the documentary, but I do think fast food's death grip on the public is almost up there with how the tabacco companies used to be. They advertise something they know is very unhealthy, but they only care about the money. If everyone heard about how something from McDonalds or Burger King had 5 times as much fat as something you'd cook at home, then they'd lose a lot more of their business. It's pretty horrible when people go and eat fast food daily... It's good, oh it's so tasty, but it's just like a cigarette, it's good then, but it'll kill you later.

I don't think I've ever seen McDonalds ever advertise their foods as being healthy, even the commercials for the salads and the "Active" Meals it was more to promote the Atkins diet which is a huge craze right now. If my product has 2000 calories per serving, no fats or sugars, and also lots of salt (say 2x Daily value). I can make a commercial saying it's a great fat-free, sugar-free food, go on about how good it is, how everyone likes it, etc. As long as I never actually give any false information it is perfectly legal, and although misleading, not false advertising. If McDonalds was truely guilty of falsly advertising you can be sure someone would have sued them. You also have to remember, Documentaries are also higher biased towards one side. "Jesus vs. McDonalds" how many people were actually asked in their little survey? As with any survey, you need a lot of people to get a general perspective. What it comes down to: If you are going to eat food someone else is going to be preparing, if you are concerned about what is going into it find out before you eat it! If it is something not really great for you you can still eat, but realize you can't live off of it. |

Fast food is of course, like you said, not good to have everyday. I usually eat it when I am on the run and have no time whatsoever to get anything to eat (i.e. running late for practice in a school sport) and I need the energy and/or food in my stomache I'd stop at a fast food restaurant. That's about the only use I have for them. Or maybe if it is a Saturday night and I might be lying around the house doing nothing for the day (i.e. bad weather), sure, I'd probably pick up some McDonalds. Having it everyday is rediculous and if McDonalds gets banned (or possibly even shutdown, which I think will happen sooner or later) I will be pretty darn mad.
It is the peoples fault for having it everyday and being too lazy to make their own healthy meals. People tend to blame other people for their actions (i.e. the guy who got the Super Size meal banned cause it was making him fat) and it has to stop. You do know that instead of ordering the Super Size people can just get two meals, and for cheaper. Actually, this has caused people to order more than two meals making them even fatter. I guarantee you that guy who got it banned is now ordering four meals instead of the Super Size. He didn't even have to order the Super Size or better yet, not even go there! It boggles my mind the way some people think nowadays.... |

Still, the portions mcdonalds offers, it's disgusting. Have you seen those QUARTS of soda? Oh, and what about a half a pound of fries?
I'm not saying it should be banned, or that it should be healthy, just that they don't accurately offer information. McDonalds has been sued, and the government passed bills preventing the sueing of fast food places. The first cases were obviously overturnable, but McDonalds does intend to get children hooked on their food, does intend to market their product to people that eat unhealthy amounts of it, and doesn't provide accurate information as to the harm of their product. Every time I buy a pack of cigarettes, I see a surgeon general's warning --but a hamburger, even though it is bathed in more addictive and carcinogenous substances than a cigarette, not a single warning anywhere. Plus, McDonalds even tried to put out an ad campaign deliberately targeting dieters. I know people that honestly think diet soda helps you lose weight. And do you know why this is? Because commercials play on technicalities and deal in misrepresentation of their product. I'm fairly certain there is a connection between fast food and stupidity. Now, I've known my fair share of fat people, and most of them weren't self-inflicted fat. One of the guys I went to highschool with, his dad was addicted to McDonalds, and got him hooked on eating at an early age. He was of course, at fault, and the blame lay on him, but habits from childhood are very much harder to break. I smoke cigarettes, and I know they are bad for me. I drink mountain dew, and I know it is bad for me, I eat non-organic foods, and know it is bad for me. And I won't touch McDonald's. This business preys on ignorance, gluttony, and the young. Hooray for America! I'm kind of glad that some of the substances in McDonald's meat have been linked to sterility... |
Is anybody actually surprised by this sort of stuff? What's next, a groundbreaking new documentary detailing that Hitler was actually a very bad man? Possibly an expose on thrilling new scientific findings implying that water is wet?

Sure, but chemical addiction is, as I have recently found out, a scary thing. I thought for a long time, I wasn't affected by any addiction --nicotene proved me very wrong.
Is it right to target children with a product thatwill kill them? Then again, this is capitalism, and as you said, it is their fault for buying it. But when it comes right down to it, and you said it yourself, it is delicious. Most of these people honestly think that their like of food that is bad for them isn't as unhealthy as smoking, but in fact, eating-related deaths are beginning to match the numbers of lung cancer deaths. And again, what do I care, I'm healthy, I'm in good shape, and I don't smoke that much, so what do I have to worry about? So what if my fellow man is as wide as three of my grandpa's fellow men? So what if you can listen closely in a fast food resturaunt and literally hear a person's heart screaming? So what if my nation is riddiculed around the earth for our obesity? So what if other nations are just waiting on us to die of heart disease so they can roll in and take over? If there were a government collapse in ten years, I garuntee almost all of the United states population would die. People in the united states are becoming helpless. Yay capitalism! |

You missed the point. We all expected him to become unhealthy, but did you miss the part where 2 in 30 kids could answer who jesus christ was? Where 100% of the american population around the age of six knew who ronald mcdonald was? Where more americans can remember the mcdonald's theme songs than the pledge of allegiance?
Does that not sicken you? |

Misleading?
Our education system is sad, and churches have found a new form of brainwashing. Rather than teaching them morals, they bribe them with youth group trips, and snacks, and activities. It's no wonder "ADD" is everywhere. I'll tell you what causes "ADD", not getting slapped. Sure, I'm not saying you should be able to give a five year old a knife and put him out in the wilderness and expect him to live, but they should at least be able to do something other than eat, poop, and run around screaming. To some extend, the "let them be kids" attitude is a good thing, but when your kid can't pay attention to anything because they don't want to, or won't stop screaming in a resturaunt... Well, that's when you ned to consider punching yourself in the genitals until you can't breed anymore. Maybe my socialist idealism is a good thing, maybe it's a bad thing, but at least I'm not on my way to heart disease. |

I know for a fact that Diet Soda does not help you to lose weight. But even though I know that, I still order it. Want to know why? Well, the answer is very simple. Although Diet Soda is not healthy, regular soda is amazingly more unhealthy for you. The difference is undescribable. I used to love Coke, and hate diet Coke. Now, I love diet Coke and hate regular Coke. A few days ago I went out to eat and ordered a diet Coke, and they messed the order up and accidently gave me a regular Coke. I drank it and almost threw up. The amount of sugar that was in that Coke was disgusting. I have no idea how I used to drink that stuff. I tasted nothing, nothing at all but pure sugar. The only reason I order diet Coke is because it is no where near as bad for you as regular Coke. |

Again, you sidestepped my point. Stupid people are targeted. People that think diets are a way of becoming skinny. They aren't. Dieting is only meant to be maintained for 20 pounds at the very most. Do diet companies tell you that? No. Do people die every year from being on the Atkins plan? You know, Atkins himself died of complications brought on by weight and blood pressure...
The point is, companies market themselves to stupid people. It's too bad the FDA is in place, because these people would die a thousand times faster if it wasn't for them. At least then, they'd have no time to breed. |
You guys have all missed the point.
Mac Donalds, the cigerette companies...everything producing something healthy has direct links to the Hospitals and Government. Don't you see? In 30/40 years, all the idiots that abuse their bodies will be dead. There will be a golden age of intelligence! Respect Macdonalds, it's paving the future for your children. |

Sure it does, but until someone manages to prove that McDonald's is turning people stupid by beaming hypnotic rays using a fleet of mind control satellites, I don't see how they're really at fault. Just think of how staggeringly stupid you have to be to believe that McDonald's food is anything but unhealthy--these people are being manipulated and taken advantage of by everybody they meet. They'd be eating unhealthy and getting ripped off regardless of where they eat.

Wendy's is the best. Screw all those other places.
List of bad: Mcdoogle Burgerking can be bad, but can be good. Like the fries. Sonic had a lot of Health Inspector reports, but that's because teenagers were running it. Taco Bell is always nasty! If it isn't bugs, it's spit. Not only that there is a lot of racial profiling, whoever is behind the counter serves to their race specifically better then any other. And someone elses spit? Disgusting! |
In short, fastfood is popular. But if you're planning on eating nothing but it, then don't plan on being healthy, common sense.
