I liked it a lot more than I'd dared hope I would. Sure, it was full of corny dialogue, action movie cliches, improbable events, and all the stuff the reviews warned about. Sure, it was about as scary as the "Tunnel of Plastic Skeletons Covered with Fluorescent Paint" ride at the county fair. Sure, it was no Alien. But nonetheless, I liked it.

I liked parts of it, but other parts were just way too cheesy. The Alien vs Predator fights were very entertaining, much better than Arny vs Predator.
|
I enjoyed it as well. The back story seemed nice, and, of course, so were the fights. Some of dialogue just seemed... I don't know, like it was written by a... oh, by me. =)
p.s. Predator rules. =P |
I am now ready to see Ellen Ripley Clone VS. Predator. Who is with me!? :)
That would be pretty neat, super strenght Ripley vs a pack of predators. |
I watched it over the weekend. It was alright but it took waaay too long to get into the action, and when it did get to action you could hardly see it.

Alien > Predator

Good, solid monster movie action. It was by no means I high quality movie in terms of script (Could the telegraphs be anymore obvious? The one huy mentioning his kids 40 times made me laugh- He's dead!) and the shooting was rough in places (lots of unnecesary zooms on face- those always seem cheesy and forced). But, the special effects were neat, and frankly no one went to see it for anything other than alien on predator action. I was a bit disappointed with the predators, though- they seemed fairly incompetent at hunting their quarry and never used the weapons from the temple.
Now I will patiently await Godziilla vs. Jurassic Park ;-) |

I agree, that is why I thought the Kungpow: Enter the Fist scene was so funny, when they kept zooming in on Kungpow's face along with the ninja boss. They did it about 30 times and it got faster and faster each time with a weird sound. I could not stop laughing. Jmurph wrote: Now I will patiently await Godziilla vs. Jurassic Park ;-) Even though you are saying that as a joke, I can really see that happening. It is only a matter of time. Maybe if we are lucky, they will make Jackie Chan V.S. Mr. Miyagi. =P Just one more thing to say before I go: Predator rules! |

I think the gun on the predators shoulder right after she gave him the gun was the weapon, wasn't it?
I also think though that even though predators are awesome, they weren't made to be as cool as the aliens were in this movie. Predators reminded me of just nieve human men running through the temple in this movie. The only part I thought was really cool is when the last predator jumps up towards the queen when it's trying to kill the girl, and sticks the lance through it's head. That and when they were fighting against the humans. |

Yeah, I just didn't get why the predators, who presumably *knew* they were fighting Aliens, did so poorly (and were poorly equipped to face them- equipment that dissolved in contact with alien blood? Come on!). Especially given the abilities shown stalking humans.
Maybe the shoulder cannon was the temple gun. I couldn't tell. I did like the ending, though it was highly improbable (remember all their internal scanners? And the experienced ones watching would have surely realized the danger of being implanted by a *queen*). I was curious what a predalien would look like. I guess pretty similar to the humaliens, but stronger (eesh!) and with face flaps.... |

I was curious what a predalien would look like. If you go out and buy the gold edition of Alien vs. Predator 2 (PC game), you can be one for yourself! The exspansion allows you to play out a story as a Predalien. Without the expansion, you can play as an Alien, Marine, or Predator. Very, very good game. Aliens start out as facehuggers, and have to sneak around and find a good host. I suggest trying it out. Multiplayer is awesome, too. :) ~>Volte |

AVP2 is a very good game indeed (I have it, but for you people that dont there is a multiplayer demo!). The people who made this movie arnt true predator fans at all. In the movie there are only 3 preds vs many many aliens. I bet #2 is going to have many preds slain on their home planet and some stupid human is going to have to come along and save them somehow. The movie is sided with the aliens and the ending sucked. but we all know predators rule!
Thats a predalien |

Check the special features. In the making of the movie, you'll see that the Predators in the movie are teenagers with little combat experience. They were sent to the temple to retrieve the guns, kill the aliens, and then they would be allowed to become men in the Predator society.

Even if you go with the idea they knew what they were up against and how the temple worked, they were meant to have their shoulder cannons and the task wasn't meant to be easy. The test wouldn't have been fighting the aliens but hunting while being hunted in an ever changing environment designed to confuse. As for the equipment dissolving in the alien blood, I guess they were standard equipment you take on any hunt (I imagine they'd be useful not just in combat) and they never planned on using them against the aliens. Maybe the shoulder cannon was the temple gun. I couldn't tell. Yeah it was. The one thing that really annoyed me was when the girl wears the alien skin arm protector. The inside would have been covered in acid blood. |

Actually, in a deleted scene they handle the alien exo-skull a bit better. You see the predator cutting the alien flesh carefully to avoid rupturing any capillaries. It seems that aliens have a couple of different tissue layers and not all their fluids are so acidic.
As to the predator's knowledge, they had a shipful of more experienced hunter/warriors with them. You don't think someone would have told them about the acid blood? It is a pretty obvious feature of their prey, and given the preds are supposed to be so high tech, you would think they would have appropriate tools if the have all these super durable multi optics and what not. |

Nothing in the AvP universe is really able to stop alien blood from devouring it. Thus meaning that the Predators had no able equipment that could handle it. If you recall, xenomorph blood is able to eat through feet of industrial space steel like nothing.

Yea, but don't install the expansion, it greatly unbalances the game and makes multiplayer terribly unf.

Nothing? Then aliens dissolve themselves? And some materials would be completely or near completely resistant to *any* acid. Metal is *not* immune to acids and is quite vulnerable to etching and corrosion; metals have high reactivity to acids. Certain ceramics, waxes, and glasses, OTOH tend to be unaffected or very slowly affected. Additionally, and substance with a high alkalinity would natural neutralize any acidic substance (producing a salt in the process).
Now, the writers may have just tossed chemistry out the window, but I doubt it, as evidenced by the fact that aliens don't spontaneously dissolve. The acid found in the humanoid aliens seems to be a very potent organic acid- but is probably actually based on concentrated sulfuric acid (an inorganic acid). Assuming high mol sulfuric acid or similar, there are a variety of subtances that resist it quite well. I am sure an advanced race like the predators would have figured these out- even if it was by replicating alien tissue. |

Well, in the comics, alien blood only carried acidic properties, but really it was made up of certain enzymes that dissolved material. The xenomorphs had enzymes lacing their innards that countered their own bloods enzymes, or something like that, and the thing was, was that nobody was able to recreate these enzymes to defend against the effects of the blood.
