Check out what I found in my copy of Windows XP just now:
It's green. It's ugly. It grows extra menu options when aggravated. And it's coming to get you.

But seriously folks... who else thinks Microsoft's interface designers need a slap upside the head? =)

Change the theme back to windows classic. Overall, much better appeal.

I liked the Windows classic look in Windows 98, but not in XP. It looks different. I'm not sure exactly what's different about it, but there's definitely something missing.
Anyway, I got used to the Windows XP look, so now I'm kinda stuck with it. =) I don't actually mind the green start menu button that much, even though something like a dark medium blue would probably look nicer. |

I saw that a few weeks ago, I think it it is BS, personaly. Should LoTR sue evercrack? No.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who thought XP's interface was ugly. It's one of the reasons I'm sticking to 98 (At least until there is enough wanted software that I can't download :P). I much prefer win98's look, especially when you can customize it to different colors. All of "good" graphics windows just look like your playing a video game, and I don't want to do a report for history class inside of a video game :P

Heh, they should go and sue individual people who use those characters like the RIAA would :P

What annoys me the most is how they changed where everything is located just because. No reason, just because. Still trying to figure out where everything is at, gah.

I agree. Luckily you can move most things back to where they should be; the first thing I do on a fresh install of Windows XP is always to turn on the Classic Start menu, for example. The default XP one is just ugly and disorganised.

Yeah, that's [taffing] ridiculous.
Excuse me while I go and sue Xerox. They should install image recognition software in all photocopiers they produce, and regularly update it with images of all copyrighted works in existence. These measures must be foolproof so that nobody can photocopy my work. Otherwise, they're liable and I can sue them! |

Yeah, I have it setup that way. The Windows XP default is highly annoying. I also mean certain programs, control panel, and other things. Example : Start > Run > "msconfig" instead of using system information. Also, I still haven't found out what "winipcfg" is in Windows XP. Having to go through the network control panel to get it is annoying. It's pretty bad when bookmarking an IP Checking site is quicker than getting your IP through Windows.

winipcfg was replaced with ipconfig for 2000/XP, which you use in the command prompt.

That's old news, and the makers of the games had to know what they were doing when they made their game. You have far more freedom with creativity than other MMORPGs in terms of character development, and lots of people were cloning marvel characters. From a legal standpoint, CoH hurts any type of MMPORPG marvel might try to make because people can create the copyrighted characterds already on coh.

personally i think this is pretty absurd- Marvel should attack GURPS and any other game where you can freely create characters of any style you want. i hope someone has the sense to see this is folly. i mean the character-creation in CoH let's you make characters *like* marvel characters, just like it lets you make characters *like* matrix characters.
these guys just sound like they now want to make a game of their own finally and don't want any competition. |

I think Marvel doing this is stupid, but they have a point. It's not like CoH didn't realise they were allowing players to make Wolverine/Hulk/etc when they were designing it. The excuse of 'well what do you expect, there's only so many different powers a superhero can have' sounds alright at first, but if a rival comic book appeared with "The Incredible Large Man" and "The Spectacular Four" that excuse wouldn't float at all. |

You can't just not use XP because of the interface. It's FULLLY customizable. I have insaine skins for windows XP. People who don't change their XP skin then don't use it because of that are ignorant. I'd show you my desktop but I have nowhere to upload it; My FTP server is down. It's 2 and a half MB. I'll try to find a place though. I have tons of wallpapers and skins that match and look sexy. Try Windows Blinds for Windows XP. Google it. Once you've intalled WB download WB skins at www.pixtudio.com or at www.wincustomize.com

This would be true, except interface and skins are two different things. The things people were talking about(and the people who mentioned it do use XP, as far as I seen) included the way it was setup compared to older versions. Not the way the desktop or start bar looked =P
Unless your skins allow you to change the way everything is laid out, in which case, I apologize. |

Theres a difference with a comic book company coming out with those blatant rip offs. It stands in the fact that those companies directly made those, they didn't present a tool that allowed a community of people to customize their own comic books and make them look however they want with a drastic range of powers. No, instead the company itself blatantly created its own characters which were obvious copies of another companies characters. NCSoft is cracking down on players who copy Marvel characters, but they can't control what people make. As long as the player designer is as customizeable as it is, then there will be people making characters in the likeness of their favorite superheroes. |
