I hope it's not called Zelda 2005. No. :P The current hype-name is "Zelda 2". OOOH, mysterious. But it'll be renamed with a proper sub-title soon. I don't think Zelda goes well with numbers (unlike FF): Zelda 11? :/ |

If they didn't use roman numerals it would look a lot worse. Somehow it just doesn't fit with fantasy games. FF X-2 seemed wrong to me.

Good to see they are getting away from those goofy as hell cel-shaded graphics. God I hate those. Looks like South Park Link....

I also loved the cel shading, it was bright and viberant. It made the world much more colorful.

We're all entitled to our opinions. I thought the cel shading looked amateurish and was a step back. But then again, I like Link a little darker and a bit grim. Save the sunshine for those silly Mario Bros ;-)

I think the whole point of the "cel-shaded" Zelda was to lighten the game up a bit, as the series was getting a little too dark. I think Zelda does fairly well being mildly cute though serious, but I don't really like the idea of Zelda being a dark or grim game.

The Mario Bros are not silly, they are god damn legends.
Actully to tell the truth, it all depends on the game. If they did resident evil cel-shaded, I wouldn't have liked it, it wouldn't have fit the theme. Now look at the Wind Waker, it was a world set in a tropical fantasy land. Granted some jungles could be dark and dangeours, it just didnt fit the feeling of the game. The bright colors only enhanced the game. Now the new Zelda, looks like it takes a much more mature, darker, serious plot and world into mind, so the dark graphics fit it better. Dont get me wrong, I hate how they went all wind waker with the new Zelda for GBA, the Minish Cap or whatever, I wish they would have stuck with Snes Zelda like graphics. |

The current hype-name is "Zelda 2". Actually, the current, tentative title for the game is simply "The Legend of Zelda". |
Unfortunately, unless they're aiming for a Q4 release, I wouldn't trust the 2005 release date too much. Back in E3 2004, they updated the Nintendo website with the expected release date: "2005". The interview claimed (in paraphrase), "The game is pretty much finished -- now we just need to get testing out of the way." Since then, absolutely no news has been posted regarding the game, and they haven't narrowed the "2005" release date any further.
Ordinarily, if you're going to release a game, you keep the hype current, and you throw the game in the face of the consumer to make them want to buy it immediately upon release (the greater they project sales-at-release, the more copies that distributors will want to buy). Otherwise you're going to make people fed up with seeing the same recycled images over and over again while you claim "progress is smooth", and distributors won't want to buy the game from you because they don't expect the game will sell incredibly well. (Distributors rarely play the games they sell.) |

Minish cap was absolutely great, and brilliantly easy on the eyes, too. Link to the Past's graphics were getting on a bit. Why use old, 16-bit graphics when you have the colour, vibrancy and prettiness of the 32-bit powering the GBA? Oh, and on the Zelda series getting too dark: I do agree, however this new Zelda is looking REALLY dark and scary. I believe once, the new director behind Zelda (Miamoto quit once Majora's Mask started up development, and it's not the same person now who picked it up then, either (I believe)), said "We want every Zelda game to be unique.". So they're going the complete opposite direction for this new Zelda, and I feel it's a good thing. Change is good, considering it's still going to have that Zelda mentality and functionality we all crave (and are slightly addicted to, don't try deny it). Majora's Mask is my second favourite Zelda, and MAN did that give me nightmares. That was so dark it was positively anti-matter. It was ACE. |
