Well about 1/4 to a 1/2 of the school was protesting by wearing black arm bands and stickers that said "NO ID" and people even put "NO ID" on thier cars with shoe polish and somebody even put signs infront of the school that said "Da Ribbon = No ID" and "NO ID DAY!!!" Which was pretty great. They said that it might air and it might not. But I don't care. I got the news to come to the school in less than a week. People all over the school were raving about this. Dang, and I thought I was popular before! Nice! If they try to actually punish them you have the supreme court case Tinker v. Des Moines to back you up in that you are well within your rights =P. If it does get aired on the news that would be some nice publicity to back you guys . |

I can understand the policy against ornamentation, especially if the school has a mix of rich and poor kids. I wouldn't have any complaints there.
In government-run schools, the dress codes are usually there for a few reasons, some of them stupid (a "corporate identity"? since when did a high school need a corporate identity?) and some of them sensible (preventing outsiders from walking freely amongst the students). The most sensible reason I've heard is to narrow the apparent gap between rich and poor students, where the rich kids will wear designer-brand clothing to "be cool". The poor kids who want to fit in will then beg their parents for the same unreasonably expensive branded clothing (as opposed to equal quality, but cheaper, no-name clothing), and the poor students end up living beyond their means. On the other hand, that last item made me stop and blink. No watches?! As the Flash cartoon says, double-yew tee eff, mate? You mean you're not allowed to have a watch so that you're not late for class? ... That's the stupidest dress rule I've ever heard. Next time you're late for class, tell the teacher that the dress code made you late. =P It's probably just part of the ornamentation rule, which sort of makes sense, but watches aren't just for decoration; they're a necessary item if you have a timed schedule that you have to stick to. I'd complain about that. The rest of the rules are annoying, sure, but I've heard stricter. (My previous high school required all students to wear a white top and black shorts/trousers/skirts. Unbranded, too (apart from an optional school logo). That was all we were allowed to wear. No khaki or blue for us. Parents usually aren't supportive of students not liking their uniforms. Some are, of course, but I think you'll find that the majority like the fact that students have to uniforms. They make life simpler in some ways. |

Yes but still. I had got my ear peirced right before school started (I had just moved into the city schools (county schools don't have a uniform)) and i had to let it heal over. Talk about a waste of money.

My school gives each student an ID card, but they're pretty useless. You only need them if you forgot your lunch money so you can charge, or if you forgot your locker combonation. Yeah in which case they aren't required and just used to easily verify your identity serving their intended purpose :P. |

Maybe in some places - the school canteens I've seen in Australia are usually more expensive than normal shops, not the other way around. (Because of that, I usually take a packed lunch. It's about 20 times cheaper. =)) My canteen was always cheaper than anywhere else. I guess it comes down to who owns the canteen. The guy who owned/ran it was a fairly smart person so he knew he'd make more money selling things cheap. |

That's not a uniform, that's a strict dress-code.
My old highschool didn't enforce any kind of dresscode. Hell, I got away with wearing some crazy stuff, and as for some of the femmes, well... Most of the kids I went to highschool with were moderately to extremely overweight... And it seemed like nobody but me noticed. It was pretty bad. |

So you see a ton of kids wearing white/blue shirts with kacky/blac pants. Picture it. It's a uniform(I may have forgot to mention the shirts have to have collars (meaning no tshirts), I din't think it was important.

Most dress codes are used because being uniform looks good to people, even if kids don't think so. One of the main reasons it's done in shadier areas is because it removes the ability for people to wear gang colors, and it makes sure that you don't have revealing or distracting clothing worn by kids.
Let's face it, when you see middle/high school girls dress like the whores they're going to grow up to be, someone needs to just beat them repeatedly. The same goes for you retards who wear clothing for someone twice your size, granted you are alot easier to chase down if the need arises. And for the record, piercing places like your eyebrow or nose is retarded, and girl or guy, there's only one reason people get tongue piercings. People who use their faces like Pin cushions are in for a sad shock when they try to get a real job. For Sariat's case, I hope the people who painted on cars with black shoe polish, painted it on their own cars. Considering that you yourself said you passed out the fliers and started all this, if you end up causing a massive disruption in classes, you can, and most likely will, be punished for it. It's one thing to protest something you think is BS, but it's another thing to cause disruption of classes. |

uhm, the only peircing I've ever had was on my ear... And some of the schools that fall under this uniform are some of the best public schools in the state, I doubt they are about to be wearing gang colors(well, not intentionally, anyway) and those who do, well, thats their problem. And these schools are in rich neighborhoods so you wouldn't have to worry about some kids being able to afford better clothes. I know, because I used to go to one of those schools, it was cool because of all the fun that can be had there: more clubs than can be counted, including an Anime club; movies shown at least once a grading period (thats how I saw Finding Nemo), etc. The point is, some of the uniforms ideas are OK, but the majority of them suck.

You have political freedom no matter what age. After all, didn't you hear about the kids who wore black armbands in vietnam? Or, more recently the kids who wore anarchy signs to school. They all got off because of this right.

Actually, it is. Every day someone in my class forgets their homework gym clothes, etc. And after a few days, you get suspended, yet they still forget it. And what about thoses who lose their ID?Incorrect, there will always be someone that forgets the ID for one stupid reason or another. |

Yes. And how much do you want to bet some teachers would even join, at the risk of losing their jobs? This is not the correct path for the school to take. Its bound to hit newspapers, CNN, etc. pretty soon.

Well, the problem there is that non-violence, although extremely effective, isn't fun. Not even close.
Do you remember the massacre in Gandhi? That was a true story. As for MLK Jr, well, he got assassinated. Since games, as a rule, should be fun, I'm not sure a good game could be made about non-violence.
