Well I'm at a crossroads in the development of my game Xenophobe. I don't know if I should place the main setting in either one of these two:
After leaving school, your career prospects don't seem to bright so you do what countless others have done before you, joined the military! In this case it happens to be the United Systems Colonial Marines. Your first assignment lands you - (and this is where the choice comes in)
- On a remote base on Earth in the coldness of some undisclosed location. You are sent as a continuous stream of new recruits eager to cut their teeth. Little does Marine Admin know that each new recruit is being used basically as fodder for an Alien hive being housed within the base itself. Furthermore, little does the base staff know that the Queen of the hive has other plans for her brood and no one seems to notice the extra few deaths a month until it could be too late...
OR
- At a space junction point upon the Marine Freighter 'Scimitar'. Upon your arrival you are quickly initiated into the tight knit Colonial Marine unit known as the 'Bug Swatters'. You are also briefed on why you were sent to that station.
"Apparently some damned scientist over on the Weyland Yutani station in the operational range of the 'Scimitar' thought it would be a good idea to bring one of the Salaje Cult members who worship the bugs onboard for study. It turns out they didn't scan him properly and he had an embryo inside of him.
"Well it took less than 2 days for the station to be overrun by damn Xenomorphs. It'snow our job to clean the place out. We can't just nuke it, 'cos somebody from high up wants it intact.
"Now we know you new lot are still green, but you've got the support of the best damn bug fighters this side of
LV-246, so don't you worry 'bout nothing. Now don't forget the industry grade fly-spray, 'cos we're going bug hunting!"
I know I could put both in but I'd just rather have one as a main focus of the game. I'd just like to know which one would people most like to play out and if there are any (helpful) suggestions.
Thanks in advance everyone.

The second sounds more interesting. It might just be because you wrote more of a story for it, but the plot sounds much better.

I agree. However, maybe you should give the players a choice about which side they want to take part in.

Interesting point... I shall consider this...

Well...you've got the humans and the aliens, where are the predators? :P
Just kidding, a human and alien game only would be better anyways. I think that you should be able to pick sides however. Aliens should have to go through the life cycle, too! |
