OK, can you program in C++ instead of DM? I'm taking a class that teaches C++ in school, and so I was wondering if I could apply that knowledge here. If not, can they include the possibility in a future update?
The basic programming concepts should apply to DM and all aother languages.

James, to do that, they would have to turn Dream Maker into a C++ compiler. DM is its own language: it is not, and will never be, C++.

Of course, alot of DM concepts apply to C++ (and vice-versa), and the syntax is similar. In general, C++ is more powerful, but DM is alot easier to use: You don't have to worry so much about memory management, and alot of procs are pre-defined in DM that you would have to make yourself in C++.

Yes, but couldn't they make it to here the compiler will compile both C++ and DM? I could keep studyig DM, but it is so boring and I am not getting graded for that

This is a DM compiler, not a C++ compiler. If you want a C++ compiler, download one. You won't see C++ compilers compiling DM anytime soon, so why should DM compile C++?

Because, like I said, thats what my school teaches. And I want to use BYOND so I can have a place to put my work.

On a similar note, I'd like my apple tree to produce oranges along with the apples. Thanks. :)

That would be cool, but this actually makes sense. The people who know C++ won't have to learn DM to make games. And they can host on BYOND. Besides, if this happens, you woldn't have to worry abou me asking many more questions about the code since I'll know one of the languages that you can code in. On another note, I could get grades for what I make.

Most C++ compilers have file organization systems similar to DM, search for "Dev C++" by Bloodshed.
In response to Jamesburrow
Why not just make a game in C++? If BYOND used C++ it wouldn't include any of the features of the current system -- you'd have to make it all yourself. This request really has no valid reasoning behind it, just that you're too lazy to download a C++ compiler and put the files on your own space (which you'd have to do now anyways)

Actually I think that would make a good program. Somthing like Trillian but with compiling. It would be an application that could compile all kinds of programming languages.

Umm well is certain languges like copywrited?
In response to Green Lime
No. Well, only the ones that were created for a paricualr program, like DM. But see, you slightly understand my reasoning.
In response to Nadrew
No. The only reason I want to host it through BYOND is so other people could see it and play it through a program they use anyway. Eventually, I might move games I make to another server, but until then, sense I use BYOND to play games, I would like to make them with it too. And the langage i know best is C++.
In response to Jamesburrow
this makes no sense. if you write a game in C++ and incorporate all the bits needed to host the game for others to play- you won't need byond to begin with, *and* potentially reach a wider audience when you announce such a game in various venues.

suffice to say- if you want to write games in C++, do it with C++ -- there are many free downloadable compilers available to do it with.

trying to mod BYOND to compile in multiple languages would take time and resources away from more important features/issues.

Then stop learning DM if it is so boring! Focus on the more important need to learn a marketable skill. Then come back to DM when you stop feeling bored.

There's no reason that you can't just download a C++ compiler. The one I linked to, Bloodshed DevC++, is probably the best free one out there.

If you want to make an online game in C++, then feel free! Advertise it on these forums if you want: people will play it.

OK. Fine. I was just making a suggestion. But the main problem I have, is most of the hosts that I know of, besides BYOND, cost money. And I don't feel like paying to have it up unless I know I can make money.

**Also, Can you people maku up your minds?? First I put this in BYOND Features, then it was moved to Community, and now its back in Features
If someone wanted this that badly, they'd find their own way of mixing the two up.

What do you mean by 'hosts'?
In response to Jon88
Web hosts that people can play games on. I've seen a few free shell servers, but I'm talking about stuff like BYOND, where you can actually play the game, not just host it.
