Brilliant? If you want to play an "Idle RPG", goto Chatters.

Don't redirect him to Chatters. Anyone who thinks Idle RPG was a "brilliant game" will only be reduced to cinders in Chatters. The keyword here is "game". There is utterly no challenge (except maybe convincing your parents to let you leave the computer on all night so you can level up) in it.

Idle RPG was dumb as beep, and if you can't even manage to reproduce Idle RPG on your own, you need to go jump off a cliff.
No, all joking aside, why did people love that chunk of crap so much? |

I'd agree if I actually had to convince them. I just leave it on and stock up on Chatters time. :)

Yep, http://games.byond.com/hub/Cycso/SleepyRPG . I created a game similar and released it under CCL. You must give credit however.

Actualy, I quite enjoyed it. Being that I have my own computer that was on 24/7, for a while, I had the highest level in the game. Ok, so it was pointles, but it was still fun to have bragging rights.

Do you prefer CCL or GPL?

Oh, yeah. I can see it now.
<font color=blue>Scoobert: Ha! I have the highest score in Idle RPG! Eat that, losers!</font> <font color=red>SomeGuy123: Translation: I have the worst social life on planet Earth.</font> I don't think that's really something you should be bragging about. ~X |

Actualy, IdleRPG is good because you don't need to be there. I can be gone and still rack up the experience. Having a high level proves nothing, but doesnt mean that I don't have a social life, hanging out in chatters does. (/me goes back into chatters)

Logging off of your PC for the night and getting up the next morning IS NOT playing a game. That is what these RPGs are made for... And there may be a few people who find them mildly entertaining, but more entertaining than the generic RPGs all over BYOND? No, they just play it because they can just sit in it and earn points. Same with older DBZ games. They don't need to play at all.

Creative Commons License allows the creator more flexibility in what he allows or doesn't allow - in essence, it is a "choose-your-own" licence.

There's also a whole stigma to the GPL that renders it stupid: everyone uses it just because everyone else uses it.
When it comes down to it, the GPL vastly limits useful code. I find it ridiculous that you have one of two choices: release everything for free (or release the program for a price but grant non-exclusive rights to redistribute and modify the source code, which renders it fairly worthless), or sign on with an industry programming team who are actually capable of writing all of the core systems from scratch. There's no middle-ground for-profit solo programming possible, because there's just not enough time available to write all of the core libraries from scratch. That just irritates the hell out of me. If more people would release code under BSD-like licences, for-profit programs would be considerably better in quality. Fortunately, more people are starting to use the LGPL, which is still inane but at least better than worthless. |

Agreed; the GPL is too extreme. It'd be nice if all the software in the world was free, but it'd also be nice to be able to make a living from programming. =P
Microsoft wasn't actually far wrong when they called the GPL a "viral licence", though their choice of words was unnecessarily provocative. =) |
