I'm a major RPGer; strangely, I've never played Diablo 2. So a day or two ago, I went out and bought it.
I've just now figured out it's the game I've always dreamed of-- hack and slash and kill and level up every 5 seconds.

The problem is, half the people still playing online are extreme powergamers who exist only to sell all their super equipment at "WWW.SUPEREXTREMEBESTDIABLO2STUFFEVAR.COM". Then, the other half is just the typical "xX_darkshadow_gOlD_wArIOr_xX12921".

If anybody still has Diablo 2, I need you to make a new character so we can go through the storyline together on a private channel (you can make private channels, right?).

With enough friends with an IQ equivalent or greater than a glass of water, we can have some mass-killing fun.

Perhaps I am missing what powergaming is and what you want is :P.

Well, he did use the quantifier "extreme". I think he means, those are the people who are playing in hopes of cashing in on their character's level, not for the sake of playing the game.

I play it off and on, and it just so happens that I've been playing it a lot recently. I have a pretty decent knowledge of the game, but I'm not really an elitist player. I generally just play by myself on Battle.net (to answer your question, yes you can make private games), and go into other games only on occasion since it's not much fun playing with people you don't know.

Do you have the expansion, Lord of Destruction? If you really like D2, I suggest getting it since it adds two more player classes and a 5th act that brings closure to the story, along with some extra weapons, armors, etc.

Anyways, if you want to chat and play, my MSN is [email protected] (I also have AIM, AngryCinnom, but I hardly ever turn it on).

Note to Jishuka: Both D2 and LoD require cd-keys to play on Battle.net. The only other way to play multiplayer would be through a TCP/IP game, which I've never even attempted.
I'm going to be playing in the next ladder season, USEast. We have a team of oldbie D2 players setup and if there is any room, maybe a few people could get an invite =P

I already started a sorceress on USEast, and she's around level 12. Should I start over? You could get that level in like, 5 minutes, I bet. :P

How does the ladder thing work? Is it like a "contest to get the strongest character in the shortest amount of time, win a prize, season ends, chars dissappear"?

Oh, and what are your names?

We plan on getting level 80+ in the first day, so, if you plan on playing with us plan on it being an all-day weekend thingy =P

What we do on ladder is wait for it to reset(All the ladder characters are reverted to normal characters) and we work our way up to being #1 again. I will probably be using *DBGT, the other people we'll have to meet when the time comes. I'll reply to this thread if and when it ever comes up.
Ah...darn..I play on USwest -.-'

Ah, yes I have my copy of Diablo II someplace in this wreck of a house. I'd be enlighted to join in your little group of Diablo II fun, but there's only one question I must ask: do you have the expansion "Lords of Destruction"? I have both, but I sincerely believe the expansion is indeed a worthy expansion, adding on the Druid and Assassin classes ... if you don't have it, I suggest you buy it soon.

You're right about the Battle.net community; most of them are jerk-wads or the small fraction of the rest is extremely generous. I mean generous by opening games and giving away items for free ... but that ruins the experience for me. It's always better to make the cash yourself as opposed to getting that "1337 G0D Sword" and doing over 9,999 damage, even though it is physically easier, it just flat-out ruins the role-playing experience. Anyhow, I didn't mean to steer off subject, but you can reach me by replying to this thread of my MSN name: [email protected]

Later!
Count me In. :) I'll just need to find all 'dose disks! Unless of course the party's allready full? :(

-I have the LOD expansion but I cannie find it! Anyone up for Neverwinter Nights? >_>

You are very much in the wrong game for that. I mean, if that's your thing, I like roleplaying too, but no "good" true hack'n'slash is going to be a "good" true roleplaying game.

No, its not the game that entirely makes a roleplaying experience, Diablo II has a perfectly good setting for Roleplaying, it is just that people don't utilize it. Thus you get a bunch of kids on Bnet using leet speak who are powerleveling their way through ranks and barely trying to get more in depth to the game.

Which is exactly WHY it's not a roleplaying game. Roleplaying games are based on the community you immerse yourself in. If you play privately and roleplay, that's fine and great. If you play publicly and attempt to roleplay, but get laughed off the zone by the l33ts, then you head to a nearby forum to complain about it... well, you should expect it due to the nature of the game. I have a feeling more people would be roleplaying as a mainstream concept in NWN (although I have not played online), thus it would be a better pick for a roleplay COMMUNITY if that's what you're looking for.
