Okay, In my programming class today someone runs in ranting and raving that they just heard an official announcement from MS that the new xbox is infact called XBOX "360" and they are revealing it may 12th. Does anyone know if this has any truth behind it?

Totally untrue.
"Xbox 2 - or whatever the console is eventually called, as it's believed that both Microsoft and Sony have ditched the sequential numbering system for their new machines" Yeah, the 360 may not be sequential, but the next XBox has been called both the "XBox next", and the "Xenon". Personally, I think they are going to stick to the Xenon. |

Xenon sounds like it would be a sweet system just from the name. =P

Well, no. I don't play game systems. Last system I bought was a Nintendo 64. Then some one gave me a GameCube with like 10 games for like $10.
Gaming systems are more worthless than an internet community. -Ryan |

Nope. Gaming systems are crap. They make people lazier than computers.

They never made me lazy.
Its not their fault that they are so entertaining anyway. |

Your friend is a retard. It won't be called the Xbox 360. This is what happens when you let websites and magazines not qualified to do their job go unchecked. And then hand them a gullible userbase like the said ranter.
But it will be unvieled on May 12, by Frodo on MTV, and no, that is not a joke. |

There are far too many game systems out there right now, and its beginning to get tiring.
I may instead of getting a new system this year, I may just save up and buy a new kick ass computer. After spending money on a new system, games, controllers, memory cards, ect, I could have bought a brand new computer instead of a new system and it would have a higher compatablity rate. =P Xbox dosent put out the best games either, I got my Xbox modded, so I can have any game I want, and yet, I only use about 30% of my HD space for Xbox games, I use the rest for emulators. I think MS should stick to computers. It will be intresting to see what the Nintendo Revoultion will be though, since they said they are going in a completely different direction, since the time for sheer horse power in systems is over with, and I agree completely. What is MS and Sony gonna give us? I bet a new system that can push the limits just a little bit further then their last damn system. its SICK! Rawr. |

I despise Nintendo's recent business tactics. They seem to think that they define what gamers want and build their systems acording to THEIR opinion of what gamers want.
Microsoft and Sony seem to have a better history than Nintendo as of late. Sure, Nintendo was the first to hit it big, but when other options showed up, it started to die. Why? Arrogance. Nintendo thought that they could just pump out the cheapest, moderately outdated technology and just keep the same set of characters from their prior systems. Sony and Microsoft have been engineering their systems around the wants of their consumer base. XBox was marketed primarily to action games, and Playstation was marketed primarily to cRPGs and third-person action games. Personally, I am offended by Nintendo's unrelenting attempt t control the kind of games that are made for their systems. I am also offended by being told that I, as a gamer don't really want online gameplay. The revolution will mark another failure on the part of Nintendo. It WILL, however, be a revolution to the gaming world --by removing Nintendo from the list of serious gaming companies. |

Microsoft has done surprisingly well in the console field, however. Most expected the XBox to be a failure. I was one of those people. I am now a diehard XBox fan, and have left Nintendo for dead.
I do agree, however, the ultimate gaming machines are, and always will be computers. However, not all of us can afford to drop $800-$1500 on a new computer that will just be outdated in three years. I'd much rather buy a console for $200 and buy about $600-$1000 worth of games and equipment that will be outdated in five to six years. My next system I'm buying, however, will be a new computer, and once the next XBox has been out for maybe a year, I'll probably buy that as well. The next playstation hasn't looked too promising as of yet, and the Nintendo Revolution looks like Nintendo as a whole has been doing too much bragging to hold up to their promises. They are trying to make the Revolution seem more epic than any other console ever. Nintendo had better pull out a serious trump card (and I don't mean a new mario or zelda game) to earn my money, and trust me, they won't. |

Don't start calling it the XBox 360, then others will too. It WILL NOT be called the XBox360.

Oh burn!
Gah, I'm still going to believe that Nintendo will lead me to a glorified world of fantastic gaming. And I'll never be converted! Y'know, this talk of game reminds me more and more of a religious debate. |

Note that he put every single speculated name there, not just "XBOX 360". Don't flame him for trying to be diplomatic.
Besides, why do you care if people are wrong about the name? When they're proved wrong, you can laugh at them even more. =) Not that I advocate laughing at people, but I suspect you'd do it regardless of whether I advocated it or not. =P |

I don't know about the name thing, though.
