I find over here the ads aren't offensive they're just stupid. For example, the key to making an ad for a new show seems to be 'claim it was huge in the US'.
They've also resorted to playing encore presentations of shows (however the encore is planned and written up in the TV Guide long before the first episode of the series has even aired. So reguardless of how liked/disliked the show is, they're going to replay it).
Basically if you want to put a new show on you keep on telling people they like it until they're convinced all their friends do.

Cable TV is much worse than free to air (and not just because I'm paying for it). They've taken to putting on anything that will pay them money. They're completely irrelivent.
Pretty much all of the cable and free to air channels are bombarded with a set of ads for mobile phone ring tones/backgrounds. It's not just that they're on constantly, it's not just that they're cheaply made (I'd compare them to ad banners for cheesy porn sites) and it's not just that they chose the most annoying sound on Earth as their centeral ringtone that's in almost all the ads. It's all those things together.

If you think that's a rant, you should hear me when I get on the subject of SMS polls on TV shows.

Has anyone seen Crazy Frog? I hate it so much, its the most annoying thing in the world.

How can you hate Crazy Frog? Nobody could dislike something as great as that. I hope that ringtone comes standard on every new phone, and then someone drills a hole directly into my eye so I can take the Crazy Frog experience to the visual level.

There's a seat in Hell reserved for that freaky blue menace.

You are the only person I know who likes the crazy frog.

Its stupid and annoying, sure it might be good the first time. But its just really annoying anymore after that.

I loath it. Not only is it constantly on when I'm watching TV, but it's on the music channels every chance they get (and at the Gym they always keep the main TV on a music channel so there will be music in the background).
And to top it all off my step sister loves annoying ringtones, so when ever I'm around her I'm treated to all sorts of sounds that make your ears bleed.
I don't think it is that bad, I mean if your all about morals and dirty commericials then you might have a problem, but it is just as easy to change the tuner for a moment and wait for a silly commercial to end. However, I do think commercials are getting to lenghty and take away from my pleasureable viewing time, new funny commericals make up for that though.

Have you seen the herbal essence ad? The one with the woman in the shower having a "organic" experience? And the funny thing is they sponsor desperate housewives.
