I got a used hp computer for 100 dollars and it seems to be checking out ok, except for windows explorer and ie explorer(my computer). When I click on the link it wont pop up for 3 minutes or so, while any other program opens up quite quickly. Its running xp pro, and I've taken everything thats not needed out of startup.

Example: I click on My Computer, then click on solitaire in the start menu, I can finish a game of solitaire before My Computer will open.
Try scandisk. Then try defragging.

If that doesn't work, format and reinstall Windows. =)

Done, done, and nothing helped. I have a slight problem here, the moron I bought the computer from doesn't have(or wont give me) the software thats installed on it. Its not pirated, that much I know, but I cant reformat :(

Well, if he's giving you the hard drive but not the original installation media, then in a way that means you've just pirated everything on the hard drive. =)

If you really must: Put in a CD burner (if you don't have one at all, I'd imagine that they're relatively cheap these days - heck, even DVD burners are reasonably priced now). Copy over all the data you want to keep, reformat, reinstall, copy it back.

Or take a hard drive from another computer to temporarily back things up onto.

Or, if you're feeling really masochistic, you could use floppies.

I'm sorry I should have been more specific(though how specific can you be after working on a computer for 10 hours)I don't have the xp disks :(

My dad has a burnt copy of windows 2000 pro laying around, think that would work?
In response to Jotdaniel
Most likely, yes, as long as the computer is capable of running it. (Check the system specs.)

System is pentium 3, 864 mhz, 192 megs of ram, I'm guessing that would be enough for 2000 pro?
In response to Jotdaniel
Im running a p3, 1.0GHz, and 256MB RAM and I use windows 2000 pro. Your specs should work for it, though.
In response to Jotdaniel
Yeah, you'll be fine.
