------start up------
I've been getting wierd messages on start up. It will go like an alert and say
title:Info
(And what looks like random letters+numbers but I think it's something else)A34F
Then after like 20 a little bubble with random numbers it will appear saying your firewall has picked up wierd activity but none of my firewalls say that on scan. Also the bubble says "Learn how to protect your computer" then when I click it just takes me to a site to download something. Is this spam?

------Spybot-Search & Destroy------
Also when I search my computer for Spyware I get the following..
ERROR DURING CHECK!
Winup32(Ungültiger Datentyp für ")
DSO Exploit-> the only one it picks up.

------AVG free edition------
When I scan, and see the viruses it doesn't delete them, is this because it's free? And if so what would be a good free virus remover program.

Also I'm running on Windows 98 if it helps.

Thanks for reading my questions, Any help would be Appreciated.
I've lost my computer once to a virus and now with Zone alarm free- AVG free- Spybot search and destroyer my computer is starting to act up.
Please run AVG and spybot-Search & Destroy in windows safe-mode, this should allow them to deleate anything they find.

I'm curious. Is Spybot still relevant? It seems like there have not been any updates in ages. I think this used to be a common gripe, but it feels like it's taking longer at the moment.

There where updates for it just today, there are almost always updates, perhaps you are on a bad server. I use "safer network#2".

Er... I don't see any way to change the server. [Edit: Ah, I see the automatic mirror thingy. Still no updates though.] I have Spybot-S&D 1.2 and it lists the latest detection update as Thursday, March 4, 2004. Perhaps I need to reinstall with a new version.

Probably.

Definetly. I find updates once every two weeks or so. It seldom finds anything though. Ad-aware is about the only thing that will find at least on or two objects on a bi-daily scan.

That is because Ad-Aware finds tracking cookies, those come from ads on websites. And people like to say "What is the harm in ads, it just helps support the sites services." The harm is that the ads are placing cookies to follow your movement. Firefox does not have this program, but AIM and X-Fire both had ad windows. So I get about 2 or 4 at a time, nothing too bad, some people will have 20 or 30.
What's up man(Rurouni Dragon here, new key) Haven't talked in a while. Anyways, I've never used Spybot. I use a variety of other software, such as SpySweeper and stuff.
