Because I've been doing a large amount of travel lately, I recently picked up a Game Boy Advanced. Due to an obsession with all things Final Fantasy, I promptly picked up the I&II game, and have regretted it since. Presently I've decided to start looking for a new game, and because I'm totally out of the handheld scene I thought I'd put a query out here.
I'm trying to break away from the stiflingly slow and repetitive RPG genre. At first I was looking at getting Mario, but I thought that that might be a little far out of my gaming sphere - although I used to play it all the time on my SNES, I'm used to games with story elements.
Anyway, what are some of the best games to look at? I'm not so much interested in genre, but anything linear, super easy (like Final Fantasy *shudder*), or crappy is outside my realm of interest.
Thanks for the input,
Gathin, GBA ub3r n00b

I've got Rainbow Six for the GBA. It's pretty sweet. Although like Rainbox Six 1 and 2 for the PC it's got two of those annoying 'stealth' levels that are so annoying (thank god Rainbow Six 3 for the PC finally managed to make them interesting).

Why don't you get Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga? I absolutely loved that game, and it has a definite story element: it's an RPG! =) |

I own a GBA myself, and if your looking for a Mario game, Id recommend Superstar Saga. One of my favorite GBA games is Dragonball Z: Supersonic Warriors, although its got a stupid name, its an awsome fighting game, and despite other DBZ games graphics, this one is the godfather of them all ;)

I own GBA myself, but its my emulator =P =P =P
I own like every gba game, Mario is cool but it gets boring after awhile. Uh, for a good long rpg get final fantasy 1&2 it might have crappy graphics but pay attention to the story line mostly, it'll be good for a long road trip. |

Here are some games I recommend:
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance(REALLY cool game with over 35+ hours of play, even though its Final Fantasy) Super Mario Advance 4(I think thats the name of it. Its a remake of uh, Super Mario 3 on the NES) And maybe Super Mario Advance 2 or 3(Whichever one is a remake of the Super Mario on SNES, I love yoshis!" P.S. Check out those GBA remakes of NES games(Metroid, Zelda, Bomberman) that cost only $20 USD. |

Any Zelda game, even those are in an arguement on being RPGs (still). :p
Or, Superstar Saga, it's like Paper Mario, but...yeah. |

Ok, I have been a Gameboy Player all of my life, let me lay down some of the best Ive ever played on GBA.
Super Mario Bros 3: New Graphics, re-tooled controls, new stages, old school. While away the hours playing this classic. Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga: Tired of Old RPGS? Super Star Saga is turn based RPG for the GBA where you take on the role of Mario and Luigi, who is trying to save the Bean Bean Kingdom. Battles are intresting, fun and funny to watch as you use both Super Brothers to utilite a number of attacks, your timining and control decides how well and how much damage you do. Think of it as Paper Mario 2, toned down a bit. Final Fantasy Tatics Advanced: The only FFT for the Sony PSP was story driven in a single line of PLot. In FFT for the GBA, players will randomly encounter gangs of emeies and newrecurits to add to their army. Chaneg your class, multi class and forge weapons. Take on quests at the job offcice, or when your finally ready, take on the plot advancing quests to learn more of the story. Legend of Mana: Beutifle Sprites on Hand drawn backgrounds, Legend of Mana is a action based, level based rpg, much like legend of Zelda. Unlock new charaters and new weapons along the way. Dragonball Z: Super Sonic Warriors: One of the FEW Dragonball Z games by Atari that goes through the entire Dragonball Z series. Play from all of the sagas, as a large number of charaters and also play Fantasy Mode and dominate the universe with Cell or Freeza. Awesome controls, allow you to take your battle to the land, air and sea. With dstructable arenas, massive energy combat, and flying fists of fury, the game plays and feels like the anime series, fast, brutal combat. Its one of the BEST dragonball Z games ever put out. Castlevaina Series: Look for these in bargin bins anywhere, all I can say is Symphony of the Night Clones. BEST EVEA. Metriod Fusion and Metriod Zero Mission: Just buy them dammit. These are only a few of the games that are in my collection |
Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced is a good game. It's not the traditional FF, but it's still a great buy. Wario Ware Inc. (a game compiled of 3 second mini games) is one of those odd games that kind of grow on you. I saw the game and thought it was stupid, but I ended up playing it for hours. The LoZ: The Minish Cap is another good game, but like you are with FF series, I am with the LoZ series.
