My computer can only save files through Paint as Bitmaps. Why can't I save as Gif/Jpg?
I have Windows 2000 and a better graphics card (4MB but still) than the Win98 comp in the house, which can save as Gif/Jpg.

Did you say your old computer could save files in Paint as gifs? Wow, that's new to me.

Just depends on the version you got, sometimes you get lucky and get one that has a whole slew of types. Seriously though, I think it depends on what system libraries you have installed for the various image types.

well, first I had this computer as a Win98 comp, but then I formatted it and made it a Win2k comp. Before I formatted I couldn't save as jpg or gif either. The comp in the other room, though, can save as both jpg and gif; and Mom's comp is an XP comp so it can save as both of those plus png =P
Just a full screenshot of something on my comp takes up 2 megabytes to save as a bitmap is all >_> I was wondering if I could do anything to make it save but if not then oh well :( |

Try http://www.irfanview.com; it's free and can convert images between many different formats. I recommend PNG and JPEG; PNG is like GIF but better (more than 256 colours, smaller file size for the same colour settings), and JPEG is smaller than PNG but sacrifices image quality.

I know what PNG is (since I use Mom's comp sometimes; and Byond screenshots are saved in PNG format =P) but I just wanted to know why my computer only saves as Bitmap because that's really annoying :(

Why don't you search Google? Most of those issues have been discussed to death elsewhere.
