Im making a Mario Side scroller similar to Super Mario World. The game features mostly original icons, soon to be all original and original coding. Now I've been trying to think of ways to make it fun to play multiplayer but Im not sure what I should add, maybe a pvp mode? i could try to work in some multiplayer missions where you have to play with a partner. any ideas? Thanks,

Aryo
perhaps, partner combos like in 'superstar saga', also perhaps you could add certain check points where a player has to bring down a door like in 'Legeacy of Goku', to unlock a boss which one is fought by 1, then another fought by the other, and then in the last round a duel boss?

A combo system is a good idea thanks for it, but on the checkpoint door system im not sure what you mean. Like when both of you reach the checkpoint you enter a door, one gets warped to one boss, and the other to another boss? When you beat the boss your facing then you fight 2 bosses together? If thats what you mean I'm not sure if person A wants to wait for person B while he continuously dies fighting the boss he faces. Please explain, it may work out if you mean it differently

Checkpoints like, so 1 uber player cant just go and dominate everything, like both players must do certain thigns to pass, and I meant like your both in a room, then a boss comes and one is made too fight example:mario, luigi can still fight but it wont do the same damage, and same way for other, then after those rounds a new boss comes(1) and they both fight him and do equal damage

That might work out. Also I was thining about competition multiplayer, compete for coins(whoever gets the most coins wins), Baddies(whoever kills the most baddies wins)..any other ideas?

Side-Scroller + crowded server = bad
=/
I thought about making one of these, but I just discountinued it.

Im not meaning like 50 people on one server. I mean making it a 2 player server only.

What about a "prize" at the very end level so it will make the players compete. As for the boss thing, make it so when a player starts fighting it, and the other palyer comes in, they can either help defeat the boss or help the boss by distracting the player(I was thinking maybe jumping on top of your opponents head to slow them down..XD)

A high wall. One player must jump on the other player's head to clear the wall, then push a block from the other side to let the first player through.

I can see it now:
"
P1: Give me a lift up here
P2: Lemme go up first
P1: No way man
P2: Dude, let me up
P1: Bah, fine
P1 goes over to the wall
P2 jumps on P1
P2 jump over the wall, disapearing
P1: Let me up now
P1: Hello?
P1: DUDE WTF!!??!?
"

Yeah.....
Make it mandatory to help your teammates. Best way to avoid those problems that we all know will happen.

Hell no. Screwing over your team mates is great fun (and adds an hint of danger to working together - played Zelda: Four Swords? I loved working together to kill baddies, then throwing a pot on my friend's head to make him blind (or throwing him down a pit) and collecting all the rupies).

Nope, never played it. I planned on it, but i never got around to buying it.

Yeah, messing around with your team mates is fun, except for the teammate who gets messed around with.

Haha you should've seen it. Both me and my friend threw a pot on eachother's head at EXACTLY the same time (by chance) and blinded eachother, unable to rectify the situation.
Great, I like this and I wouldn't mind seeing more Side-Scrolling games.

I would like to see some Bonus games you can run into while playing a level, a Bonus game that puts players against each other to win a random prize, I liked such things as the Mario 3 PVP mini-game.

Also, I think you would do real well adding in some form of co-op. Lets say there is a monster that Mario can't jump on because of his spikes, and lets say this Monster is very Bashful to Peach who has the kiss ability, Peach kisses the monster and the monster turns red and passes out on his back for Mario to jump on the exposed monster and finish him off!

Good Luck, I hope to hear more.

What you could do to make sure they help the other player is have like 2 switches, like in Zelda lengend of the four swords. You need the other player, because you can only hit one switch at a time.

Thanks, for all the ideas, keep em comin,

I don't do "fan", but once upon a time I made a little game called Lexy Land that was inspired by Super Mario Bros. I can sum up my experience in five words: make sure the bricks respawn.
