Since the gun analogy came out wrong, I'll say it in a different way: the ability to do something does not make it morally or legally okay.

I don't have any 'moral' problems with sharing files. And who cares about the law? There are some laws that serve a point and should be obeyed, but there are others that are pointless.

Just to name a few...

Copyright laws are pointless now? Awesome!

Some pointless laws:
In PA it's illegal to take your fridge out to your sidewalk and sleep in it

In Detroit it's illegal to tie an alligator to a fire hydrant

In Australia it's illegal to stick pennies in your ears

In Kentucky it's illegal to stick ice cream in your back pocket

It is? o_O

Oh damn. *empties his ears, and runs from the government*

In one city in PA you have to have a liscense to grow a beard if your under 18.

In England it's legal to urinate outside as long as your left hand is touching the back right side of your car.

I have more but I can't think of them right now.

Lies!

I wanna go to each of those places and do one of those things. But I think you need a liscense to have an alligator though.

Well, the point of copyright was to serve the public. If it is no longer doing so, then it needs rewriting.
TV shows are actually legal to download if you didn't know. They are easily recordable on DVR's right?

I'm not too sure on this. I could understand it if they were recorded from public broadcasts, but what about if I was to download the episodes ripped from the DVD distribution of the show?

That makes no sense. That's like saying that shooting somebody is perfectly okay because people sell guns.

There's a double meaning in that. ;)

Dude, if you released a game after years of hard work and one person bought it, then made a million copies and gave it away free, you'd be pretty annoyed, right?

That's why you have to insert the CD for a lot of computer games- the CD check is completely uneeded, except it stops people just giving the files away.

Then thats probaly illegal. My understanding is that if its a tv show and is on bitorrent, its legal IF its not in DVD quality.

Where did you hear this :P? There is quite a lot of rubbish on the internet about what is and isn't legal and I'm inclined to think this is illegal unless you have reasonable proof.

I really think that's incorrect. I mean the people who own the show are in charge of it's distribution, and they definantly haven't been asked permission to distribute copies their stuff via BitTorrent.
