DS seems to be getting more Final Fantasy goodness for handhelds. Square Enix tends to supports what it knows will make them money.
Going into the next-generation of consoles, they have hinted many times at going multi-platform with the main series (all the numbers)

I have to go with the 360. I haven't seen any games I find very interesting that are going to be for the PS3. The Xbox360 has Gears of War, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and Halo 3!

Yes, Sony seems to be doing 'okay' with their direction on PS3. I may get one along side my XB360 and Revolution if the games ever interests me.

The next Gameboy is going to be pretty awesome. I heard it had the power/visual quality of a dreamcast, but was conventional in it's interface (unlike DS).

Gameboy Evolution [I guess thats the code name] is supposed to be out of the picture, until next year, or the year after. rumors include:
The Power of a Sega Dreamcast Uses a Mini Disk Media Backs up GBA carts onto internal memory source Support for DS games not touch screen or sound dependant The thing is, Nintendo knows what they are doing. They make a advanced handheld system every few years, but they do it in a way, its still: 1. Portable, Nice Light Weight, Pocket Size 2. Cheap and Cost Effective 3. Sturdy 4. Keeps Power, while not giving up battery life 5. Isn't a multi-media power house Sony did a number of things wrong with the Sony PSP. First of all, they designed a system, that matches the power [or close to it] of a current home system. The system isn't cheap to say the least, its only $50 less the a Xbox 360 core unit. Sony also decided to make it a multi-media power house, which not only makes it even more expensive, but it also bogs down the system with uneeded resources and battery usage. I already own a DVD player, I don't want to buy a PSP to watch movies on the road, and I defaintly don't want to buy a UMD movie, which costs only $5-10.00 less, is smaller, easier to break and has a lower quality to the movie and extras. The PSP also has a poor battery life, which they will eventually fix, but right now it IS A PROBLEM. I mean, I took it on the road with me, and after 5 hours of playing games, it died on me, so I pulled out my DS, and it lasted 3 Days before I had to re-charge it. Not only that, the PSP, is shoddly built to say the least. Be careful with the huge screen it has, its very easy to scratch, not only that, the system itself is very easy to break. I dropped my DS on the cemeten once while playing it outside, and all it had, was a scuff on the case. Dont expect that from the PSP. Why else would they make a near bullet proof case for the PSP? [The Play Gear Pocket, it costs $20.00 and a guy online shot a clip of himself shooting it with a .44 and all the case did was crack a little.] The PSP is took expensive, it has too may extras, which are FORCED on the user Id like to add, its easy to break, and the bettery life blows. Mean while, Nintendo still OFFERS the end user the ability to play MP3 and movies on the road, but they offer it on the side as a accessorie, if you want to pay that amount. Slow and steady wins the race, not fast and shoddy. |

Nintendo is currently offering playback ability on flashcards that work in conjuntion with the DS and GBA unit. They work just fine, and if your sneaky enough, you can get the flash cards to run homebrew and backup.

In the GBA slot. Duh. I used to have a 256 GBA Flash USB Extreme Linker, used to play GBA roms on it all the time.
Then someone went and stole my GBA. >:/ |
sorry to break it to you but the PSP was in the top 3 selling console list for a long time... nintendo just recently got a nudge in the sales when they dropped the price and nintendogs + a few other major titles came out. It really got it's butt kicked when it came to launch sales...
The thing is, the ds only offers gameplay. The psp offers a lot more versatility. At the moment the psp sucks but they can improve on it and make it better, while the ds just simply doesn't have capabilities like that... and it relies souly on the software developers. The ps2 has more games out than any other system. The ps2 has over 1000 games and the psone released over 1300... Even if sony loses out on the handheld competition this round, they have enough money to keep going and going year after year. Just wait for Final fantasy advents children to come out. |

the reason a lot of big name companies still provide for the gba/ds is because making 2d games is insanely more cheaper than making 3d, so it's more of a profitable venture without much effort. Studies also show that as long as the game responds appropriately and gives the kid the action they desire, it doesn't matter about the level of detail they'll still enjoy it...

Nintendo has been in the handheld market 4 or 5 times longer than anyone else. But that doesn't really have anything to do with how good they currently are. It's not like one person has overseen ever aspect of Nintendo from start to right now. The people in charge change and the people buying the handhelds change. They are in a good position because people know Nintendo make good handhelds, but Sega and Nintendo having great reputations didn't stop the Playstation from taking off. |

Flame Sage, when you play a GBA game on DS, the other screen turns off to save power. You can choose which screen it uses though. I've found that by playing GBA games more often then DS, I can double the already awsome battery life =D
I'm still waiting for a good RPG DS game -_- Also, to whoever mentioned FF: Advent children, Thats coming out on DVD, so it won't help thier PSP sales just because poeple want to see it. |

Yay for Sony fanboys!
The DS is outselling the PSP by about 4 times in Japan and has a worldwide lead of 1.2 million units. |

Almost 7 million DS units sold and almost 4 million units sold for PSP doesn't compute to only leading by 1.2 million units worldwide.

Yes, but you are forgetting the mistakes Nintendo made with N64. Cartridge base media, which turned almost all 3rd parties away from supporting them. And if you haven't noticed , the company with the most 3rd party support these days does better than the rest. Ex. Playstation 2 Ex. Nintendo DS |
Also the Next GB is so far away from release right now that I wouldn't even mention it that much.
