In about 5 hours this country will be impacted by a new hit in television. First it was Pokemon,Digimon then Dragonball Z. Now a new anime called Naruto(kidified) will dominate Toonami and this generation and join the lines of those other popular animes. Prepare yourselves for the video games,Mmorpgs, movies, board games and trading card games that lie ahead.
And the death of a great series. I love Naruto in japanese, (subbed of course), but now that its coming to mainstream Cartoon Network...

I'm going to watch it, I like Naruto too much, but it's going to kill me a bit inside.

Yeah, I will still watch this... but it won't be the same as the japan version.

Well of course it won't be. All cartoons which get translated are different. It's just the matter of liking it or not.

I personally only watched Naruto once (not in Japanese), and it was odd.. The guy has whiskers. =P

Can you imagine the decent Naruto games we might have on byond after this show airs. The owners of the games we already have might actually know what Naruto is/The good coders might like it and try to make it here.

I don't understand how this is going to kill you a bit inside. Shouldn't you be happy for the creators? Their show is now being widespread known and is going to be appreciated by a wider audience than just hardcore anime fans. I seriously hate when people see something going "mainstream", that they watched before it became more open, and think that it is killing it. Even with translation it isn't like they are going to be burning all the original copies of it or anything, so I don't see how it really effects you.

What crack are you smoking ;-P More like floods of terrible Naruto fangames. Exhibit 1: the tons of terrible fangames already here....

If people could just focus on learning the basics THEN making a *decent game*, it would probably help.

Agreed. We need a vote to delete button like newgrounds.
And the annoying fanatics :P

But then we'd never get to witness Grei's works >_> :P

No preperations needed on my part :P. There is already plenty of junk I don't bother with already and this will likely just replace something else in the pile.

Though if it hasn't even aired here how would you know it will be a success?

I'm kind of anxious, having only read the manga. I watched the trailer and I was horribly disappointed at Naruto's voice, he was supposed to be a trouble maker not a little whining girl.

Ahh well they'll either kill it or...(well funamation will probably kill it(make it like dbz)) make it better.

Either way I'll go on reading the manga.

Likewise. =)

I think it's a pretty safe bet. I've seen a few episodes of Naruto, and it's definitely the kind of anime that has mass-market pre-teen/teenage Western appeal. (I prefer the ones that don't; they tend to be better. But I digress...)

Mind you, I think it's a bit better than DBZ, so that might count against its success. ;-) (Kidding.)

Lol, You want to know what the best Manga Ever is?

Helsing hands down.

Haha Alucard your my best friend!

Btw its about a Vampire that has guns and shoot and kills lots of people and things(and can regenerate). No it isn't actually that dumb but I refrain from giving away the story line.

Doesn't really say much depending on your view of DBZ. Mine being so abysmally low a slight improvement would still leave it at negative infinity :).

No matter how much you wished, Pokemon will never be toppled over, I'm telling the truth! 0_o

It's in a whole different ballpark to DragonballZ. The main difference is Naruto doesn't follow a very simple formula like DragonballZ. Fights are (for the most part) strategic instead of force based. So they're actually interesting.
Generally speaking you wont predict how a fight is going to turn out, but you wont be left feeling like they just threw together a quick excuse to finish the fight.
They use 'ninja techniques' as well, which can basically be summed up as magic like DragonballZ 'techniques' can. However in DragonballZ there are three 'magic' techniques, the ki ball, the ki beam and the ki shield. They just give them different names depending on what character is using them.
In Naruto the closest thing I've seen to that is a fireball technique. Pretty much all the 'magic powers' are completely different. Most of them aren't straight forward 'aim it at the person you want to die' techniques. They're usually something you'd use to get the edge on your opponent, like a ghost you that distracts your enemy while you sneak up from behind.

Also, while the show may be named after the centeral character the rest of the cast don't revolve around him.
They're all proper characters and they're all mortal. At the end of the day they obviously can't kill off the main characters anymore than Buffy can stay dead, but the main characters can fall.
On that note there's a lot less of a focus on fighting. Sure they fight, but they spend a lot of time with other stuff as well.

Comparing Naruto to DragonballZ is like comparing Terminator 2 to Independance Day. Metal Gear Solid to Tomb Raider III. An iPod to a discman.

Then again, the most you'll ever see is a bunch of 'MMORPGs' where players kill each other with large numbers.

Believe me that is probably much more than the most I'll ever see of it :P. I couldn't even stomach enough of DBZ to come to the conclusions for their side of your comparison. Though given your comparison it doesn't sound like I'd be interested in either even if I didn't already have my huge negative predisposition to anime.

Granted I don't watch much of anything on TV anymore :P. The only thing I go out of my way to watch anymore is the new Battlestar Galactica series and even then I can't just sit and watch it without currently doing something else. So I guess I've just lost interest in most TV.

Whoa whoa, Some guys are itching to get viz to send out a C&D. They are using capture cards and putting the english versions online. This is bad, If VIZ finds out the japanese naruto we all download could be illegal from now on!
