This is why it pays to keep notes, and backups. Inevitably, you're going to lose your code. Best to have it on CD or disk, incase of loss. You'll thank yourself in the future.

Not to mention images, .wav, & .mid files. Well anything placed in single quotes which could be source code if for some odd reason you decided to stuff it in there. |

about this 'decompiler' , where i can find ? You can't. I think someone said a long time ago that Dan or Tom made one; but still, that would not do you any good, because it does not give you your ariginal code. Many things are altered when the world is compiled; and if you somehow were to use a decompiler on it, it would be an unreadable mess. It is actually easier just to start over, however annoying that is. There was one project I had in the past, in which both I and the person I was working with had a series of unfortunate accidents; and we had to restart from the beginning three or four times. And I have lost other things that I have worked on by myself. For instance, as everyone knows I never finish my projects and thus don't have anything on the hub; but at one point I lost my internet connection for half a year and ended up programming a fighter jet combat game - I spent almost all my time on that to keep myself occupied and must have literally had over a thousand hours on it... then when I finally was about to get back online the Road Runner cable internet guy installed the wrong software and killed my computer and I lost everything. That was way back when I wasn't nearly as proficient with Byond as I am today; so although the thing was pretty cool in my point of view, it's not like thish thousand hours made it something awe-inspiringly amazing, though I did have it pretty tricked out. Anyway, my point is that I know how you feel. I've also had file losses even worse than that one, including the loss of years' worth of work; but I won't go on any further. For the record though, at that time I had no CD burner and my best storage device was the 3-inch floppies. I wasn't about to screw around with them since they wouldn't even hold everything needed. |
2 - No, there is no 'decoder' (The correct term is 'decompiler' for BYOND. At least, no current one.
3 - With a bit of fudging around, you can get icons out of the rsc. That's it.
