I know I did one of these awhile ago but here's a newer one, please help.
"Two weeks ago, Secretary of Interior Gale Norton handed over wolf management to the state of Idaho -- the same state that just a few years ago passed a resolution calling for the elimination of wolves "by any means necessary."
And just last week, Idaho officials announced a draft plan to kill up to 50 wolves to improve elk hunting in the upper Clearwater Basin. That's 75% of the wolf population in one National Forest. "

I think wolves are beautiful creatures, and I don't even think Elks should be hunted, but humans are ignorant like that in my opinion.

And what do Humans do? Destroy things.

Except that they are natural predators, and kill many kinds of animals. Jermman, I figured you should know of all people that nature checks and balances itself. Predators are there to keep animals from overpopulating themselves, keeping them from eating all their food and killing off many kinds of animals. They want to keep elk numbers high, but that will increase the population drastically of all the animals wolves hunt.

Who cares? Wolves help to keep the said elk (not to mention other types of animals) populations in check. Big deal, a bunch of hunters bag a few kills they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. That most likely doesn't add upto the amount that the wolves would have gotten over the course of the rest of the year. You also may look at it as big deal, some extra elk, but assuming the food chain functions similar there as it does elsewhere, places where predators are being brought in in an attempt to keep deer/elk/etc populations in check, and you can see the problems it can cause a few years down the road. |

Who cares? You say that now, but seriously- think ahead. A lot of British people regret that wolves were hunted to extinction in our country (as a matter of fact, there have been plans for reintroduction of wolves to the country). |
I wonder what they will do once all the extra elk start eating into fields, wandering into populated areas, etc.
It seems kind of odd that a mass kill is the solution to anything, but the midwest seems intent on wiping wolves out. Then again, 50 dead wolves don't vote; hunters and ranchers do. |

not knowing the full story, this sounds like a means of getting rid of the competition (to the local game-hunters).
knock off the wolves, and then when the elk start getting into the population the local government can raise the kill limit for hunters. endgame: everyone eats venison more often. and rednecks get to put more things on their walls/trucks that poke people's eyes out. |

i would help but not living in US wolves are my favrite animals i have seen on another site somewere about killing 5000 wolves i think in alaska (aerial shootings) but i don't wish to see these shot it would be easyer and less cruel to just relocate them or at least put them in zoo's i hope theres an easy way to resolve this.
Who cares? No, seriously. Wolves do nothing for us. (Jermman) its that kind of attitude that caused the extinsion of the dodo bird mankind is the most iggnorent speices to walk on this planet ower inteligence come at a price to mother nature. |

Because, y'know, aerial slaughter is obviously preferable by far to nature's own method of culling (predation). Nature's all messy and unpatriotic. Heck, it doesn't even display The Flag! The less of it around, the better. ... |
I'll sign one of these whenever it involves humans or a state that isn't Idaho.

Yeah, the problem is that without predators things like deer, rat, etc. will explode leading to all kinds of unforeseen fun (such as uncontrolled disease outbreaks). Damn those ecosystems!

Exactly, that is why Jermman is a dumbass...Sorry for the langauge, but that is the most frank way of putting it.
I am not some Animal Activist PEDA person, but I am smart enough to see that wolves DO, do something for the enviroment and life itself. Why do we need bees? They just sting people? No, they help spread pollen. Same thing, don't you see wolves help keep animal populations under control, and sure they are a menace when there populations grow, but what animals aren't? |
Like people even need to hunt Elk...
