I've never been very good with networking issues and to be plain I've got no dang idea what to do about this one.

I've recently invested in a new computer, which I have also networked (using a cat6 crossover cable) to my old computer. There is no router/hub/switch, just a direct connection. Now my issue is that I would liek to host BYOND games on my new computer and the internet connection is on my old computer. Can I/How do I allow people to connect to games I am hosting on my new computer?

I hope that is enough explanation of my problem. Thanks be to anyone who can help me.

One of the computers is going to be running some kind of connection-sharing program, so that both computers can access the internet, I assume?

In that case, you're going to have to set up port-forwarding with that computer. No way around it.

Could you point me in the right direction as to hwo to do that?

Thanks a lot,

Depends what you're running on the old (internet-enabled) computer.

As in OS? WinXP SP2.

Can't help then. I don't know anything about internet connection sharing in WinXP.

Someone else should, though. Sorry.

First you need to set up Internet Connection Sharing to enable your new computer to access the internet through your old one:

Then you need to set up your old computer to port forward. The guide below is for Azureus (a BitTorrent client), but the same principles apply for BYOND. Just enter port 3000 for "Internal Port" and "External Port", and then always host BYOND games on port 3000.

I hope that helped!
