For all you BYONDers with big dreams, yet nothing to show for it - this is for you. May it motivate you into the process of Building Your way into the OND, as it has for me.
Lol very interesting, but it'll probably take a whole week just to read all that.

Nahh, read it in about 15 minutes. Fun to read.
Don't need it. I can build large platform fighters in under 24 hours. (Around 3 days of computer time)

I read it before too. Won't hurt to do it again.
Ah, yes, the OND. Famous acronym, that one. =P

Fun article, thanks. He also linked to a blog post which I can completely identify with!

This is all true, and inspirational...you can get even further using BYOND, given how much is done for you already.

I found this statement about Python interesting, since it all applies to DM too:

I can't believe how quickly many features came together using Python as opposed to, say, C++ or even Java. Things like typeless variables, dictionaries, and extremely easy-to-declare lists (allowing a mixing and matching of object types) made it very easy to implement content lists, attribute handling, spell effects, and so forth.

well if you look at all the dbz rips out there, they made there games in like 2 days....but really, its not hard to make a game in a week. Depending on what your trying to pull.
I would like to point out that it's harder to build a game in a week from scratch with no bud than with no budget. :-)

I noticed that aswell!
The first thing I said to Mobius was:

"They're trying to build a game, in one week, from scratch, with no drugs!"

I had a jolly good chuckle at it =P
Just what I need, more proof that Gathin is freakin' awesome. Writing an article that gets me even more pumped to make games.

Although in all fairness, one big thing that can make making a game in a week not as easy as in that article is the fact that the coder could have no previous experience with coding at all. A potentially big hindrance.

Taken from just under the articles header:
"by Jay Barnson, Rampant Games"

Finding an article doesnt make someone ownage O,o, but yeah a guide to making an RPG in a week is nice but if the coder cant code for crap they wont do it so fast lol

My thoughts exactly. How much farther would he have gotten with BYOND's built in graphics, network, sound, etc. functionality?
In response to Jmurph
I reckon he could have done all of that plus more in a couple of days, assuming he was as familiar with DM as he was with Python. He spent ages just getting a sprite up on the screen, and getting rooms working. All of that would have come free with BYOND.

Maybe someone should write an equivalent BYONDscape article:

"How To Build a Game In Sixteen Hours From Scratch With No Budget"

=)
