The game is being designed to play like Survival, but not as hard or tidious. I really disliked how, you spend several hours collecting resources for your house, only to fail and loose everything the first second or third try. Survivor will be much more forgiving on this.
Current Notes Include:
Food Sources - Bananas, Pineapples, Grapes, Mushrooms Fish.
Players can bury entire bannanas to grow a new banana tree.
Players get Pineapple crowns, which they use to grow new pineapples.
Grapes can yeild up to 3 seeds each time you eat a bunch. You can use those to grow more grapes.
Mushrooms appear only in caves. If you eat them raw, there is a 10% chance of them being poisious. Cook them to make sure they are good.
Fish can be caught. Eat them raw and also gain back a little thrist. Cook them to make a better, more filling meal.
Resources included in the current game are rocks, stones, grass, flint and wood. Which you will use to make things.
In the game players can craft things, they can craft Hammers, Axes, Shovels, Fishing Rods, Rope and a latern. They can also make fire, torches and glass bottles.
Players will be able to craft wood and stone walls and floors, along with doors, which you can make locks and even keys for. Caves will also be avaible for sturdy shelters.
Days and Nights will also be in, including weather patterns. When it rains, more resources will spawn that day, and fishing will be much better then on other days. Fires are also harder to start.
Now the problem. This is all fine and dandy, it should work well, but now we come to the player vs player issues. We know that there will be players who want to kill other players, steal from houses, ect.
I accept this as a game play element, and I will allow it, but I don't want to let it get out of control. What are ways I can still allow the players to be destrictive, but in a way that won't completely ruin the game?
One idea is, as long as your player is in view of another, they cannot destory or steal anything that belongs to you.
Another idea is traps, from digging holes and covering them with grass, to more advanced traps that require a little more thinking.
One thing that is being added is the ability to use rope to tie players up and bind them to one place. But this should be limited too or it will be badly abused.
We will see how it all turns out i guess. Hell Ramen is actully a pretty decent coder and he is easy to work with, so its been fun working on it so far.
Ideas for the future:
Crates that wash up on shore that hold any where from other food (jerky, potatoes, ect) to weapons not found on the islands (knives, maybe even guns).
Clothes for the players. As you see it right now, they are semi nude, only wearing rags. Perhaps players will be able to weave grass into clothes or find wild cotton or something?
The ability to mine for ores such as iron and steel and forge those into beter weapons like crude daggers and swords.
Any ideas would be great, thanks.
Also, do you have to BUILD your own house?
