Most of the people around here who know anything have been learning DM for years, so don't expect to become an "elite" programmer overnight. Just learn one little function at a time, apply it in your programming experiments, and then then when you learn another one, apply that one too. You'll always be able to do things you couldn't do before.

After a day, you don't know jack, except maybe where to find ZBT.

After a week, you've figured out how to expand ZBT into your own little poorly-made world.

After a month you think you've got what it takes to build your own world without the help of ZBT stuff.

After six months you realize you didn't know jack after a month.

After a year you finally figure out how arguments "really" work.

After two years you've gone through about 50 different projects. You probably think you're an awesome programmer, but in reality you still don't know jack.

After four years you finally realize that you didn't know jack two years ago, but you think you know some stuff now. And it finally starts to set in that people who you thought were awesome programmers really aren't.

After about eight years you'll finally start to understand some of Lummox's code.

Programming doesn't have to be hard. You just have to learn from somebody who knows how to teach.

1) It was meant to be humorous, not (totally) realistic.

2) It was based on my experience, not yours. You can make your own.

(Realistically, it took me about 4 months I think...)

Point taken. However, learning other languages will allow you to learn BYOND far more quickly, especially if you continue tinkering with BYOND while you study other langauges.

Besides, why not have BYOND classes? It's a nice educational langauge. I know for a fact that Tom has been pushing (lightly, anyways) BYOND as an educational language, and I hope that eventually he'll get some form of education on board (colleges would be nice!).

It would be, whats better than a bludge class? Also, it would be good for people who've never used it, or want a nice simple language.
