Recently, my best friend who I loved, and whose only purpose in life was to love me, died.

The problem is that I have no idea how to deal with it. It combined with depression that has been resurfacing recently is really getting me horribly down, and causing me problems, such as the inability to sleep and the urge to eat (which I am able to ignore safely, for the moment). I think I'm going to go insane if I can't deal with this soon. Everything in my house reminds me of him, which, while being a good thing, is also a bad thing because it only brings the pain of losing my best friend to the front of my mind.

Any suggestions?
Well, it may not be healthy, but smoke you some pot. I've heard many things...some bad, mostly good.
I really hate to sound like this, but he was just a cat. I love both of my cats to death, but if they were to die, I would feel bad and move on. We would probably get another cat to replace the dead one.

I know the bond between a man and his pet can be as close as a brother or son, but when it comes to death, the facts should be looked at. And the fact is, it was an old animal who died when his time came. Another fact is that if you get a new cat, although not the same cat, he will take the place of the old one.

Depression isn't a form of idiocy. Pot would only make it worse. I might end up going to a psychiatrist about it; I've been meaning to for a while. Depression runs in my family.

That has to be the stupidest advice I have ever heard. You, sir, fail.

Unfortunately, getting a new cat is out of the question. Even though yes, he was only a cat, he was also the cat that grew up with me. He was closer than a brother.

Sure pot'll make it worse. Nah. It'll kill a couple of braincells, but it'll make you happy. :-|) But, seriously. I don't condone the use of it, unless under drastic circumstances.

BUZZ Wrong[period]

You know nothing of the physiological affects of pot.

Wanna bet? First hand experience teaches you a lot..>.>

How can you trust what you thought while you were intoxicated?
In response to Danial.Beta
I can't. Point is, I felt happy for the time being.

And when you went off your high, did you feel any better? No. In fact, most studies show that after you come off a high from pot you are more depressed than you were before you smoked it.

POT IS NOT AN ANTI-DEPRESSANT[period]
In response to Danial.Beta
Well, it's also not a depressant.

True, but there is a "crash" associated with it. It is probably not a physical crash, but rather a mental one caused by the high contrast of feelings from being on and off the drug.
In response to Danial.Beta
Not really, it's not the kind of thing that will cause a crash in a normal healthy brain, it's not addictive enough to cause any kind of crash for being off of it. Since your brain already produces the chemicals you introduce by smoking it except in smaller amounts it is very able to properly break it down without too much of a problem.

Smoking pot isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be, tobacco and alcohol are far more dangerious.

True, but it is still bad. And it should never be recommended as an anti-depressant. It may not be physically or chemically addictive, but it can be mentally addictive, especially when it is used as a crutch to get over bigger problems.

Oh, of course. But don't make it out as some big bad drug, drugs aren't natural and have manmade additives, even tobacco. Pot is about as clean and natural as you can get in a non-addictive substance of the kind. Even if you smoked it everyday of your life chances are it won't actually hurt you, it doesn't even really kill braincells, that's a myth, it simply overloads canaboid receptors of your brain which your brain already uses for things like sleep and pain blocking (partially), it doesn't really alter brain chemistry enough to cause any actual damage. It's even impossible for it to cause things like cancer and whatnot, it doesn't have tar like cigarettes. I did a really long research paper on it in school and found more good things about it than bad things, the only time you really have to worry about it is if you're not in a proper state of mind, or have a chemical imbalance, since it can cause an adverse reaction to the chemical. There's no overdose risk and there's never actually been any longterm side effects proven in people that only smoked pot and did nothing else, burnouts are generally caused by more than one drug.

And if you're wondering, yes, I have had plenty of personal experiences with it myself, and have never once had a time when it made me any less productive than I normally am, I even tend to do better programming when I'm not totally sober. I've had various doctors recommend that I smoke it to help with my insomnia and weak appetite (caused by a condition I had at birth). And it's actually been effective a few times when I couldn't eat without becoming sick, that's why they give it to cancer patients, appetite inducer.
Very sorry about your loss, I'm one of those people that cares more about animals than I do other people, my whole family is the same. While death hasn't ever really bothered me I've seen my family handle it in various ways, and it's usually best to just mourn, get it all out of your system, it's natural to feel bad for a while, especially if you were very close. Don't get too worried yet, if it persists to a point where you start to get sick you may want to look into a few 'lower grade' night-time medications, like Tylenol PM, or Unisom. They're nice non-habit forming over the counter medications that'll help you calm down enough to sleep, but won't just knock you out. They'll help your mind 'turn off' and ease you to sleep. Don't leave you with a headache the next morning or anything. I recommend Unisom since you don't really have any physical conditions, but Tylenol PM isn't going to do any harm if you just need it to sleep.

Point of information: Arsenic is a natural substance. Just because something is natural doesn't automatically make it good for you. =)

I'm not saying it does, I just get a little annoyed at people that look at pot like it's some evil hardcore drug, I know a lot of people that smoke pot, and it doesn't make them any less of a person, that's all most of them will ever do is smoke pot and doing that alone isn't going to hurt you, some people are allergic, some have wonky brain chemistry, but if you're a normal person it'll never really hurt you. And it's completly possible to function normally while you're 'stoned', people do it all the time. Some people can't, but it's really just in their head that they can't, they act more than anything.
