Naruto Botls is now Rank #1 on BYOND Come play this awesome game!

(I recommend Snow Village)
With all due respect a lot of the developers here have expressed their disapproval at said game being rank 1.

Mostly because we're jealous that a badly made game with blackmailing staff can out do our entire collective efforts.

I would say so, yes.

Blackmailing annoys me. :-\

Yes.
I vote that all games that can be proven to be blackmailing should be removed from the rankings >>;
Rankings were meant to show off the good games,examples of what people want.
Not to be abused by rips that blackmail their players <<;;

maybe a byond admin can suppress the hub entry? And it is rank 3 not 1.

I think they bribe more than they blackmail. I've seen this happen quite a number of times.

Personally, if some game owner said he'd wipe my savefile if I did not add his game to my favorites list, I'd stop playing his game. This isn't true for all games, but those inferred game's owners would not do this sort of thing.

It was one.

Heh. Looks like it's number 3 now. Woot for superior coding. Lawl. I'm going to log on to see what it's like. I hope no one hates me for this..o_o

That's not what he's saying. He's saying that if you add his game to your favorites list you'll get an in-game bonus. The thing that make his method different from most other games that outright buy votes is that if you remove his game from your favorites (after receiving your bonus) he'll delete your entire savefile.

Rips should be banned period, and yes BOTLS is a rip no matter how much they deny it. I swear... all we want is a little bit of admin to go "No rips, remove game or be banned" or SOMETHING but all we get is "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I'll pretend I didn't see that and just go ban some people in the forum instead :D". Aren't rips illegal anyway? I don't know officially but I heard they are, if they are then they should be banned period without having us complain about them...

And yes I'm going to run and go into hiding after this posts before the BYOND admins come to get me XD

You'd better hurry. I thought I saw Nadrew at the body-bag store getting one with your name on it! Run or you'll soon find out what happened to Dan!

Which is kinda stupid as you can develope a way to check if it's in their favourite and if it isn't, you can simply remove the bonuses that person gets. It's not really hard at all, just the method retrieving it is just one of the slowest way currently [hint: world.Export()].

Why wipe a whole savefile (unless the bonus received gives the person a huge advantage over regular players I guess) and waste so much time and effort when a simple ingame check can do it for you? ;)

I hate you. Not for the silly fangames (ironic statement neh?) but because you used the term 'coding' instead of the proper term 'programming' (see last bracket comment).

When the hell did this voting system come about anyways? It clearly doesnt represent the best games on BYOND, its just the next BYONDimes incident waiting to happen.

Failing that you can just make a verb that manually selects the bonus from their jutsu list and deletes it.

Even though the game is a rip I'd assume the programmer knows enough to create such simple systems, so my guess is that the staff are counting on the fact that people don't feel strongly enough about who they vote for to give up all their work.

Oh god, hes gonna put you in the closet!
Then I will have to find ANOTHER DBZ Fanboy to save you from the closet of Nadrew >>;

too late! :)

if you have so much energy to complain in the first place, then you also have the energy to not waste forum space with such whining and put it to better focused use, such as working on a BYOND game!

people come to BYOND to Build their Own Dream - and if they choose to be stupid and go about making their game in an immoral or un-ethical fashion, that is their problem and they will suffer whatever fate awaits them in the end. you have the choice to play or not play their game.

while ripping is certainly frowned upon, and it's legality is questionable, it is *not* the responsibility of BYOND to police every game made with the BYOND development software. aside from the lack of trustworthy manpower, it creates a level of responsibility that contains too many 'ifs'. the best we really can do is not allow fangames of any type to accept money via hub. if they choose to not use the hub to support their game, we have no control over it.

what you are asking is akin to gun makers being responsible for killing people, car makers banning people from driving because they might cause accidents, or McDonalds being responsible for fat people stuffing their faces. this is neither practical nor easy to control, and it is not the responsibility of the maker about how the product is used.

instead of crying about it all the time, what you can do (and i believe should do) is this:

- don't play the game if you don't like it! when the game maker sees that no-one plays the game, then he/she will either stop hosting it, or replace it with something more popular.
- make a game, or support a game, that is better than the one you dislike. nothing speaks more positively in the BYOND community than showing that you can make or support an original game. this can also help drive people away from the rips in time.
