I totally post. I hope we get through this period of dysfunctional web design and reach a plateau of usability... any day now.

I think people need to stop making these forums post now, there are about 3 or 4 of them already. Just post on one of those.

The new layout is horrid

Personally, I'd still like to see a single place with all the live games.

Or what if there was a place to see all the games live/hostable in the guilds we're subscribed to? Would that be possible? I think that'd work very well. Like I've said, I like the idea of the guilds and support the communities based around games of certain genres, but it's just a pain to have to go to every one and see what's live and such. I'm the kind of person who doesn't pick exactly what game they want to play, but browses around until they see something interesting.

I think a page with all the games live/hostable for the guilds you're in would be a great idea.

I totally agree, there is a large number of players who like to browse round, and it just makes it difficult if there isn't a page for a full list.

hmm....so if there's something we DON'T like, we are to NOT complain about it? Hmm....now how does that make sense?

"I have a gun to your head."
"I don't like it. I preferred it when that gun was not against my head."
"(no response, but keeps gun against his head)"
"Can I have it back to the way things were where there wasn't a gun involved?"
(bystander):"Hey, guns are cool now, deal with it."

Blunt, but that's kind of how things go isn't it?

This is just getting annoying. Seriously, where do all the games that are NOT in guilds go?

I mean, they accepted into a category, or they don't. What about the games of which are new, or have no connection WHATSOEVER to any form of category. Where do they go?

The way the official guilds are set up, all games should fall into one of them. When a game that doesn't fit anything even a little bit comes along, then they could probably re-organize stuff to make a new official guild.

What happens if you just want to browsing for a fun game, or a new game that was recently created but you don't know of it because you don't know the name? What happens to them? Do ALL new games that are not instantaneously thrown into a category just die because THEY CAN'T GET ACCEPTED?

Who says they can't get accepted? Have you tried? By your hub, you don't appear to have any games, so who are you to talk?

One suggestion for submitting:
Since games will be mostly unviewable outside of a guild, you should add a "Submit to these guilds:" step for publishing games. That way people new to BYOND won't be left out in a confusion, and it could help things to move more smoothly in the future.

That's already been implemented and is in the final stages of testing. Patience!

The guilds have a CHOICE not to allow a game into the guild, correct? That can leave games to be unviewable. I suppose really its all a tactic to rid BYOND of the ability to view rips, but if an original game comes along that gets denied by everything, then tell me how that game will get the slightest hint of publicity.

And don't judge me because I don't make games. I don't know how to make a game, so I don't. I'm not willing either due to several reasons.

They can publicize it themselves, duh. You don't need the hub for everything. Dantom doesn't have to hold your hand and do everything for you. Be glad they do as much as they do!

Besides, while the official guilds can choose what to give staff approval to, like Tom said in [link], they'll be having open submissions soon, so that your game can be classified as an RPG, for example, in some sort of unpublished way while it's still being developed. The officials guilds aren't the only ones out there too. Quite a few of the guilds with high numbers of people in them aren't BYOND-sponsored at all. A game publicized in one of them could also get a fair amount of publicity.

And don't judge me because I don't make games. I don't know how to make a game, so I don't. I'm not willing either due to several reasons.

Then why go harping on what a game developer would want?

Ok I hate the new layout. And why is it that the http://members.byond.com/?command=view_unpublished_games link only has 6 games in it ?

Byond is getting worse and worse (well for olbies) I think the
staff needs put a little effort in making use Byonders happy (by making 4.0) and stop trying to Make it "easier" for the new users. Everyone was new once and look how we turned out.

This is just like New age parent bitching about how rough school is (they banned dogged ball in my county) and life is and making their kids pussies not remembering how they grew up and turned out fine. <--(Run on sentence)

Because there's only 6 live games that haven't found a home yet?

i think the old style was easy and better.
i think people like looking at all the games they can try all together like it was before.
but either way it does not bother me, but i hope it wont be a pain to get my game into a guild.
In response to Boraken
Everybody's concerned about that, but it sounds like it will actually be impossible to have a published game -not- in a guild.
In response to Hedgemistress
The front-page guilds have extremely loose standards for accepted games. They will basically serve as a directory. Right now we are manually adding games as we see them, but eventually the community will be able to do this (see: http://members.byond.com/?command=view_post&post=28314). Most games have been categorized (see: http://members.byond.com/?command=view_unpublished_games). So there is no reason to worry about not getting your game into a guild.

The next phase will be supporting "featured" games (as decided by the guild) and game reviews. Only featured games will appear on the front-page of the guild, and we may list them more prominently within the "more games..." listing. This will replace the old publication system, which failed because no one cared about the front-page (based on web traffic) and also because it was difficult to maintain that section.

I expected the complaints, but I'm honestly puzzled by them. You can basically get the old unpublished games section by clicking on "Anime", where 99% of those games reside. The other games have been listed in appropriate (or almost-appropriate) categories. There are only four other categories-- it shouldn't be that much of a chore to browse. Nevertheless, we'll mull over ideas to make it more usable. We'll also be updating the search to make it easier to find games by more specific criteria.

I encourage you to join the guilds that interest you, because that way you can influence the order of the game listing (it uses your personal favorites to help rank the guild games).

So to clarify, the plan is to kind of Web 2.0ize the channels?

Alright, this kid in my class keeps spouting out about how this web project of ours needs "WEB 2.0 GRAFIX"---I've looked for information on this Web 2.0 thing and just found babble on the clarity or freeness of information or some such. Anyone mind summarizing the main points of web 2.0 for me, possibly linking to some good examples?

I love it, kudos to the staff!
