ok i got this computer not too long ago.
now it seems to reboot itself when i run somthing like a 3d
game the video card is a Nvidia FX 5500 wich can run some ok 3d games but everytime i go to run a game it will reboot or when a action is going to take place in the game like a bomb blowingup and then my computer freezes and reboots.
Also 2 days ago it never ever did this to me it ran very good with no problems at all.
what could it be?
Power supply?
Videos card?
RAM problem?
it happen when i first got it so i wiped and reinstalled Windows and all the devise drivers it needed.
But this time i want to figure out what is doing this without having to wipe the pc.
sorry for typos or bad spelling had to do this fast.
Thnaks-

i have the most updated DirectX i think its 9.0c
i have the driver for the Geforce FX 5500( at least i think its the right one the driver slection on their site is not a big help) the games that have rebooted are Battle field 2 War rock Soldier front those are the only i have been playing i think almost all other 3d ones will reboot it to. [EDIT]: also i have MCAfee virus scan wich seems to work i scan everyday. im scanning now but nothing found bad yet. |

what could it be? Any of the above. The video card could be crashing when it maxes out, or it could be drawing too much power from the power supply (which could be faulty, or just not capable of supplying enough power), or the increased action might be triggering extra memory usage and running into some bad RAM. If you're running Windows XP, you may be experiencing a Blue Screen Of Death. Windows XP hides BSODs by automatically rebooting whenever it would otherwise display one. To see the error message, go to the Control Panel, open System, go to the Advanced tab, and under "Startup and recovery" click Settings. Make sure "Automatically restart" is unchecked. Click OK, then OK again. Now trigger the error again and see if a blue screen with white writing on it appears. If it does, write down the essentials of what it says and post back. it happen when i first got it so i wiped and reinstalled Windows and all the devise drivers it needed. That's interesting. Would seem to indicate that the problem is at least partially a software problem. You could try reinstalling/upgrading the graphics card drivers at least. |

here is what the blue screen said.
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Technical information *** STOP: 0x0000000A (0xE4689044, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x806BD896) |

Basically that means it's trying to use an interface that another device is already using, which will cause an access violation and cause both systems to stop working, usually more than enough to kill Windows. The most common cause of the problem is the PCI bus (PCI-e too), having a modem next to a video/sound card on the bus is a pretty prominant cause since they'll interfer with eachother on occasion. If you can try spacing your video card away from any other PCI or PCI-e cards on the bus. Another cause is overheating or memory errors as Crispy stated.
http://www.tweaksforgeeks.com/IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.html Has some good tips on debugging the message, like removing all of your expansion cards except video to see if that ceases the error, then you readd each card one by one until the error shows up again, then you try with only the most recent card and your video card to see if it happens again. |

well the first thing im going to do is the w8 till it crashes again then go into BIOS and check the temps.
im hoping that will be the problem. when this happen to me before i took my pc side panels off and cooled it with a house fan till i got a good pc fan. (probly not a smart thing to do but hey) |

i wiped my computer
still reboots when i play any kind of 3d program/game that pushes the computer. i was thinking maybe its the video card also on the windows xp welcome screen and on the black screens when the pc is booting up have random blue and yellow pixels places randomly on the screen. abd 3d textures have blueness on them on some games. |

Yeah, it sounds like you either have faulty video hardware, bad video drivers, or your power supply doesn't meet your video card's requirements.

i know little to nothing about power supply health and stuff what should i check?
my brother told me to throw the video card away but theres no way im going to do that, my luck its not even the video card causing the problem. |

Well, I just looked up the FX5500 on google, and it doesn't seem to have really high demands. Most sites say a 250 to 350 watt power supply will suffice, so I'm sure you have enough unless you're running it on some ancient 6+ year old computer.
I didn't realize it was a dinky little card like that. (No offense, still better than what I use) :) Some of the newer cards require a monster of a power supply (like over 600 watts). But the average computer should support the FX5500 no problem. Probably either the card itself or the drivers. Edit: Actually no, I just checked. Mines better. :P You might want to take your brothers advice... Is it really worth all the effort when you could get an upgraded model for like 75 bucks? |

well its a cheap card for its stats 256 MB video mem
i think its only like 30-40$ i see all the awsome ones but then i look at the price and forget about it. look at this monster >.> http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ item-details.asp?EdpNo=2842055&Sku=B52-8014 |

Refer to the edit in my previous post.
$30 for a video card... I'd use that on an office computer, but never would expect to run BattleField 2 on it or something. You don't need a $500+ card either though. A lot of the AGP cards that came out right before PCI-express monsters became popular are still very good and affordable. |

BF2 runs fine for me but i gota tone down the settings alittle.
but almost all other games i have played ran fine and everything. also know any good deals for good video cards i dont want any monster cards but somthing that runs most game smooth i like the FX 5500 but i think its dead. it has i think 256 MB of vRAM and it was cheap. when i was looking on some sites they have video card with 128MB of vRAM and they cost >200$ how is this? |

This is my opinion...
I don't like McAfee or Norton, my advice would be to use "Avast" for viruses, With "Spybot - Search & Destroy" and "Ad-Aware SE" for spyware and adware respectively. -KirbyAllStar |

The home version is free. You have to pay for the professional version though.

Did you check if you had all of the proper drivers for your card?
Did you make sure to try different games.
If using DirectX, make sure you have the right/updated version for the game.
