Sometimes, but not every time, I load certain games like Command and Conquer and Red Alert (and it did it once with ePSXe), it tries to change resolutions (because they use low resolutions) and then after a few screen flickers it goes back to how it was and the game doesn't load. I think this is because I can't change my resolution lower than 800x600 D: (However, on the other laptop I had of the same model I could change it one lower o_O oh well) If this is the problem, is there some kind of program or checkbox I can use to get around it? =( Earlier I could fix it by rebooting but it's fixing it anymore o_O oh well
If they're really old (pre-XP) you can try running them in compatibility mode. Just track down the .exe, then:
right-click > properties > Compatibility > Run in compatibility mode for [whatever system it was designed for].

I'm not entirely sure if it will work, but it only takes a few seconds and seems like it's worth a shot.

It's Windows 95 and I have it running in compatability mode. It was giving me nasty .dll errors when I wasn't, but now if I uncompatabilize it the resolution thing gets it first :(

Here's another problem I'm having but I don't wanna make another topic: Can't you set up XP to log you in without having that Welcome screen if you just have one user? I thought it was doing it before but it's not now :( Maybe it was a nasty Windows update D: (I turned them off a few months ago because they bug me :D)

Most Home editions I know of do that by default.
