Problem installing DirectX 8.0

As soon as I click the installer on my desktop I get an error that says, "Setup is unable to find installation language file, SETUP.LID." The program does not execute further. Is there anyway to solve this problem?

Did you get the installer directly from Microsoft? Have you tried redownloading it?

Also, why 8 and not 9c? Also, I believe 8.0 had some pretty severe security flaws. If you really want to use 8, you should look into 8.1 instead.

No from a programming book I recently bought.

Also why not 9c? The reason is anytime i try to download any DirectX from Microsoft it doesn't work out properly. Although I will give that link a shot.
