Haven't you ever listened to a tape of a book being read aloud by a celebrity or somesuch?
I think the DM guide should be recorded being read by either Stephen Fry or Rick Mayall. |

It's not a terrible idea for the coders who don't like to read...
Even if that didn't make sense, I'm one of them. |

The DM Programming book into a tape? Good idea! Everyone should record their own versions of speaking from the guide, then we can compare. :) This is the paragraph you have to read aloud: "Chapter 1. DM is a programming language for the creation of multi-user worlds. By `world' I mean a virtual multi-media environment where people assume personae through which they interact with one another and computer-controlled objects. This could take the form of a competitive game, a role-playing adventure, a discussion board, or something we haven't even imagined." My attempt. |

I remember The Riddler made a few video tutorials on DM programming. You can find a few of them on his website, aside from his slightly bad grammer, some people may find the concept useful.

Programmers that don’t like to read? I would think that would be a problem when they are debugging or even looking something up in the reference. Which may be the reason many people don't take the time to debug anything past what the compiler points out.
I can understand not wanting to pick up Paradise Lost and then make a game about it. However, the guide is an easy read, especially when compared to manuals for other languages. |

My attempt. I learned more from that than I did on my own these past 5 years. Very nice, solid conclusion. :P Hiead |
I might understand how a video tutorial may help someone make graphics or map (point-and-click-intuitive though they may be), but not so much for programming. Programming is all in text; you're going to have to put up with it anyways, so I don't see how videos help there. :/

The reference is better than the guide to me...

You mean like videa taping youself doing some steps of the DM Guide? show them what it really looks like and how to do it and what it looks like after your done and show them how when you compile it and run it how the game does what the code says?

I just was talking to my friend he's familiar with byond and stuff, but he wanted to learn how to code, i had to show him the DM guide and i had to show him how to properly open the Dream Maker to where he could even do anything... someone needs to vidio tape a beginner session, with these pointers:
1: How to open Dream Maker. 2: How to do var's proc's and other thing's. 3: and several other important things to show a beginner what to do |

It doesn't work like that.
It's still all text.
