It probably should have come out four years ago, but what can you do? It'll be out this week.

Ok Its into next week and i am still waiting!!! Why must i wait @#$% &^%$ $##&*.
I want my 4.0 :(.

-Genjura

(Still waiting.)
I personally think that 3.5++ compared to 3.5 is more exciting than 4.0 compared to 3.5++

Sorry. It is basically ready to go, but a few last minute bugs are holding us up. Very soon, I promise!

HA i got tom to reply to one of my threads :D.

Tom take as long as you need on 4.0 :D, I want it to be perfect.

-Genjura
Hey, atleast your not one of the peeps who've been waiting for 4 years.

(Did some searches, topics with BYOND 4.0 have existed since 2003, but some go back to 2000, but I believe its just because I put BYOND)

Eh I started in 03 so i have been waiting 4 years XD.

My 1st key was Gamer2531...

Inside word has it that this is just a big publicity stunt.

Wink wink.

(No, I'm just kidding. ;-))
LOLOLMAOROFL

He tricked you!
I like the fact that the ugly-ass tabs are going to be changed. They are....well...ugly. Defeintely will be looking better in the long-run with the side panels. Does anyone know if any major changes in dream maker are happening in 4.0? Will I have to update my codes to be compadible with 4.0?

Yay!

Cant wait, been waiting for this for such a long time!

GAH! Don't say that! Now we'll never see it go public. :(

Some old stuff that's said its being phased out for the last several years, like prompt(), are getting taken out. But I don't think there should be any major changes required - mostly just major changes desired.

Oh, actually I believe there's some overhauls with Click/DblClick() that may require updates in some older BYOND games. I don't recall exactly, though.
In response to Learned
You can still use tabs, at least in the 4.0 V19 I have been using, and they are still ugly as hell. Especially if you plan on using a custom GUI. You can't actually skin the tabs, so the clash really badly with the rest of the GUI.

No major changes. If you use icon_x or icon_y in MouseDown(), you'll have to change your code to comply with the revised MouseDown() proc. Otherwise, as long as your code compiles with no errors, you won't get any real incompatibility.

Naturally, of course, once it goes public you should read the Imcompatibilities section of the release notes just to be sure that none of the minor changes affects you.

With all of the new features, statpanels (or "info" panels as they're now called) will be for newbies and for pre-interface versions of games. With the buttons and grids and output areas, there's enough control for people to recreate their own statpanels that fit better with the game interface.
In response to Xooxer
You forget Xooxer that like a parent to their child, it will always be perfect in Tom's eyes.

"Don't listen to what those other kids say about you on the forums, BYOND 4.0 you are perfect and don't you forget it!" - Tom after four years of development.

Actually, I imagine Tom thinks of 4.0 as a bastard that he wants to get out the door so it'll stop tormenting him, or at least get the little ingrate to stop stealing money from his wallet.

In all seriousness, I think it's worth the wait. It grew up to be quite the upstanding little citizen. Just don't expect it to get your laundry whiter than the other brand.
In response to Jtgibson
Hmm or maybe he's expecting his child to bring home the big bucks and not forget that it was he who made him.

What Tom doesn't know is that American children send their parents off on ice bergs... I mean to old folks homes.

Pretty soon the west side programmers anonymous rest home will be calling him, saying they got an e-mail from BYOND 4.0 about how his father has irritable bowl syndrome and is dillusional.

Tom should have thought twice about making his baby ugly during it's first years.

He's got a grudge because of the ugly stat panels, and no client side processing.

Someone gets it! Oh how I've longed for you, sweet freedom!

Ok, so 4.0 is probably as ready as it will be. Now to figure out how to release this sucker.
In response to Tom
I'd do it with a long drawn out, witty post in the Announcements board. Only instead of directly saying 4.0 is out, it'd read like a status update on the development and then link to the installer at the very end.
