It'd be cool if we could include music in our blogs. My demon hunter background looks terrible without the band's hardcore riffs tearing smoking holes in my speakers.

That, and wouldn't it be interesting if developers could post homegrown music they use in their games on their blog?
Isn't this the basic reason MySpace exists?
It's an awful, *awful* idea.

Actually we were able to initially have music playing(it must've been a over sight on their side), unfortunately they disabled it, most likely after seeing my site(the Byond staff probally didn't realize you could have music, until they saw me do it). I miss the music, I wish they never disabled html music codes sigh(My site was so awesome with the music).
No. Freaking. Way.

Sounds on webpages are the devil, period.

You wouldn't have to use it, better yet, why not include an option in BYOND accounts to download music from blogs or not. A simple toggle would solve that problem.

And what about videos? I mean you're freaking out over music, but that's been around for a long time on the web. Besides, dial up? Seriously? I don't know why people still use dialup unless it's all they can get. I mean, Verizon may be a pain but for DSL it doesn't cost much more than dial up. Most middle class families I know have made the switch in recent years.

The only ones of those that make any sense are flash player ones like YouTube since they can be made to not load the content until the play button is pressed. Other players load the content until stop is pressed.

Like me? There's actually quite a lot of people that broadband still doesn't cover. I'm only a few minutes from town where they have both cable and DSL, but I'm still too far away to get either. And satellite internet is very expensive.

Then would you object to the embeded music if it didn't play until it was pressed?

Well then for you it makes sense, because you have to, but I get tired of curbing everyone's internet experience for the slowest modems.

Perhaps there just needs to be browser versions for different speeds. So if you know you have a 56k you download that version which doesn't download songs or videos, but if you have broadband you keep the regular version.

Edit* Actually, in IE at least, I just checked -- there's an option to disable sounds in webpages.

I object. If people want music, they can click a link and download it.

The last thing I want is to be browsing around the members page, click a link that looks kind of interesting, and find some awful music blaring over my speakers. (Thank goodness for that keyboard mute button!)

I agree. BYOND's already got the files section. Best just use that and ask people to download it.

Music embedded on websites is just kinda tacky too, poor design in most cases. The majority of surfers wouldn't want to hear music when visiting some random web page, and a lot of folks listen to their own music while on their computer, stuff like that would just interfere.

There is always the argument that you can just not have it auto-start, but I'd rather just leave it off all together.
