Meh, ive had several of my piercings get ripped out before, doesnt hurt too bad, although my eyebrow piercing bled a lot and made it kinda difficult to see. I also dont care too much about infections. Ill spend about a week taking care of it, and after that I dont think its too vulnerable.

And as for fighting. . . Ive only been in one physical fight in the last three years, and that was a special occasion. Only place I put myself theyre overly likely to get ripped out is Rugby, and I normally take them out before practice and I have to before an actual game.

Piercings, tattoos, scarification. All of it looks cool, IMO.

Tattoos are awesome. Both tattoos are piercings take roughly a week of care after being applied before being able to resume activities without worry. The difference is with piercings you STILL have to be careful.

Hm...that's an idea, I've seen this done before: Get a tattoo OF a piercing! All the looks of having a piercing done and none of the care for ripping out! Could see problems with that, you could never take it off, but why would you want to? :P

It's not just for fashion, but emo kids will find it practical to take the piercing and simply unzip their wrists instead of searching for a knife to do it.

Nice, they could kill themsleves that much more quick..Never thought ofthat..

Query: How does one kill oneself simply by cutting their wrists? To me, it would seem this act would only have the following results:
1. After the first cut, the person freaks out from the amount of blood and desperately calls 911. Survival instinct > your determination to do the second one.
2. It will paralyze your hand -- perhaps both your hands if #1 does not occur and you cut the second hand.

Which brings me to another question: how are you supposed to kill yourself with two paralyzed hands?

You don't need hands to kill yourself...

Okay, I'm considering getting wrist piercing's for my seventeenth birthday because I think they're sexy beyond all reason. Yay or Nay?

It depends on what your hopes are for the future. If you're hoping that people (say, a potential employer or wife) will look at you and think "Hmm, this one looks like a level-headed fellow who can be relied upon," maybe not.

A hypothetical objector could counter with the argument that it isn't fair to form snap judgments about people by their looks, after which I would counter-counter:

1) Life isn't always fair.

2) Making snap judgments based on appearances usually has less to do with fairness than simple common sense. It's amazing how many people out there deliberately dress themselves up to send the message "I hate your bourgeois rules, man" and then get offended when McDonald's won't hire them.

rofl. Nice. Maybe ill consider that.

And what do you mean you still have to care for a piercing? As I said, I care for it for one week, and after that what happens happens.

Piercing's aren't permanant tatoos are.

Potential Employer: Then try expressing something other than 'bite me'.

If you want to get Technical you can actually remove tattoos if you really want to, in several different ways.

I heard of this before. How can you remove tattoos? The only thing stopping me from getting a tattoo now is because when I am 40 years old, I will not want it anymore.

There are a few different ways you can remove tattoos. You can get them removed with laser surgery, which I hear is not only painful, but expensive.

You can also remove the player of skin, which could also be very painful and could be a long healing process. It could really interfere with your work if you are moving around a lot, ect.

I also read you can "cut up" the area of where the skins is and pour like vinegar into the cuts to remove the ink put into your skin, which has got to be really, really painful.

Finally I read burning the area where the tattoo is, can be a productive way to remove a tattoo, which would also be a very painful, long healing process.

Anyway you cut it, it is almost always going to be painful and in some cases also very expensive. Tattoos will also fade away on their own, or as "away" as it can get. My father has some tattoos he got during Vietnam that are really really faded now. So if you plan on getting a tattoo, expect to have it re-done every few years or so to keep the color up on it.

Ah, thanks. The laser surgery doesn't look too bad, since they numb the area first. It's weird though, laser surgery that can remove stretch marks have no pain at all. You just feel a little pinch here and there. It is odd how laser surgery to remove a tattoo causes more pain.
In response to Cavern
Lasery surgery depends on the type of laser, class, grade etc on how painful it is.
In response to XzDoG
Yeah. And technically a less painful form of lasery can be used to remove tattoos, but its not that effective and will still leave an after-image type thing.

That was cold. Colder than ice. >_<

Stretch marks are technically scars. You don't have too many intact nerve endings in scar tissue. Second, you are burning top layers of skin to remove stretch marks. For tattoos, you are burning the first three or four layers of skin.

I've seen some nasty scars come of piercing tears. I've also seen some pretty haggard nipples after a botched piercing.

As for a friend of mine, he actually lost all feeling in his left nipple (not a big deal for a guy) for the better part of three years because of a bad piercing. They put the bar through too far back, actually through his aeriola, or however you spell it. Took the nerves three years to fully reconnect after removal of the piercing.

But I have tattoos. I've got three tattoos, a tribal X with an eye, a blood drop, and wings on my right pec, just above my nipple, and below my collar bone. It spans the entire pec.

I've got a roman numeral 13 on my right calf, with an iconified pirate skull and crossbones through the first I.

And I've got cursive "Loved by Some, Hated by most, Respected by all" on my right deltoid. (In my handwriting.)

My wife's got a couple too, my sister's got one, my brother-in-law has an entire sleeve, and several on his neck.

Tattoos and piercings have entered the mainstream. They are no longer as taboo as once looked upon, and frankly, I don't see many modern employers having much problem with an individual with a visible tattoo, so long as it is conservative.

Now, if you get a swastika, or a picture of the last supper featuring Michael Jackson, Charles Manson, Dahmer, Hitler, Stalin, Marx, Chairman Mao, Kim Jong Il, and Kim Il Sung... That may be a problem.

But I digress, if it makes you happy, you and only you live with your body. It's yours to change as you will it. Go nuts. Just remember, you gotta be sober to get a piercing or a tattoo.

Nope, stretch marks do not occur on the first layer of skin. It is the second layer of skin. When your body expands (i.e. muscle, fat) your skin does too (this part you obviously know). Well, the second layer of skin stretches too much and the skin can't take it so it creates stretch marks. So when you get laser surgery, you are targeting the second layer. Maybe even deeper depending on how bad it is.
In response to Cavern
Seven layers of skin, the first two or three are top layers. But I guess I was far too ambiguous.

Piercings can cause some of the most dangerous infections, that could kill you quite quickly. A friend got a belly ring and it caused such an infection that she was hospitalized for weeks.

Genitalia piercings more often then not seem to cause infections, while piercings of the tongue can, if done improperly, destroy all taste.

There's a lot of nerves in the body, and cutting a hole in your body and hoping that some massive infection doesn't take hold and kill you is rather silly to me.

Fortunately most infections can be cured as long as you go to do the doctor soon enough to get help.
