How come every time I use 4.0 My TOSHIBA 2007HD laptop crashes?

Vista by any chance? One laptop I tried it on crashed everytime I tried to join any game (it had vista home premium) Only way I found that made it work was to boot up in safemode with networking. I haven't tried in any recent builds though.
