Yeah, for all those who said that blu-ray was a waste and that playstation 3 should never have put it in. Mainly Lummox jr though, as he thinks he knows all. I believe he said on multiple occasions that blu-ray was a waste and didnt bother to accept any other point of view.

I dont think you could convince me that blu-ray is that great, even if it did win this high def war that only 1 in like 100 people actually care about. My Tv is 30 inches large and my Xbox360 has more games than a Ps3 and better online support and was cheaper. Not to mention the ps2 had nothing but disc read errors for me, 3 ps2s broke over the period of 5 years and i dont see why i would buy another shotty sony console. If i get RROD'd i will eat my words. |

Blu-ray was selling well in 2007, and it should sell better now that HD-DVD has officially conceded.
In a few years, as HD technology progresses, I would also expect the cost to start coming down on BR players into more lower-priced HD markets. ~Kujila |

Blue-ray "winning" doesn't make the PS3 win. Especially as it's obvious that the Wii is the winner. |
That's a nice little strawman you've got there, but it's not what I said. I said in particular that whatever Blu-ray's relative merits, its inclusion with the PS3 was meaningless as far as adding value to that platform. My beef with Blu-ray only extended as far as people including it in a laundry list of reasons the PS3 must be the awesomest thing ever and how it made the PS3 destined to triumph in the console wars. Industry analysis has pretty much borne out that a lot of people only bought the PS3 as a "cheap" Blu-ray player but not as a game machine, whereas for gamers the inclusion of Blu-ray overall had no impact on PS3 sales.
Blu-ray's win in the format wars doesn't do much to improve the PS3's standing in the console wars, which is still dead last. Right now the PS3 is doing marginally better in a relative sense only because the Wii and 360 both have serious supply constraints. (Microsoft has managed to quietly pull a lot of 360s from pre-sale circulation, and no one knows why yet.) Sony has the chance to pull ahead of Microsoft in the coming year if they're lucky, but no one is catching Nintendo. Lummox JR |

Now see, I don't want to be harsh, but people like you make people like ME who have a PS3 look bad. I've already tarnished my rep enough.
I'm not really excited that the BLU-RAY disc won anyways, it holds more data and as soon as I saw Blu-ray pulling some Disney titles I knew the Hi-Def fight was over... Its a sad end though. I'm sure HD-DVD would have been cheaper in the long run. No single game can make or break a console and if you think so, you're stupid. It takes time and a solid base. None the less, people who say,"LOL MY KONSOLE WINS" are idiots. You can insult other people all you want but the truth is, it just makes you look dumb. Mandatory views on the consoles The Wii has some good titles swimming in a sea of... well not too good titles... Its cheap and a good family console that brings people together. However, Nintendo needs to start producing games like they did in the old games and BY THE MASSES. Otherwise people who find themselves sucked into gaming will start to drop the Wii for a 360. No lies. Personally, and I don't want to be rude, I think Virtual Console games are too expensive when compared to the other libraries that have been put out by Microsoft & Sony. I'm looking forward to Brawl but I don't expect it to be 'epic' like people are claiming. I'm just not that excited. I'm also afraid that they might break the game.(If you'd watched last years E3 you might understand) I hope not. The 360 has a big library of great games but lacks a true exclusive library in that most of the [good] games you can still buy for the PC. However, this doesn't stop it from being a powerhouse because not a lot of people want to buy a 300 dollar graphics card just to play Gears of War. I haven't really looked into the online library for the 360 but the physical library is so intense that it doesn't really matter anyways. The PS3 has more power than the 360...thats about it. The titles you see on the PS3 are almost always on the 360. However, if Sony can finally flush out some decent first party dev games they can show off the power of the PS3. Otherwise, developers who port games to the PS3 are always going to be pissed that it has longer load times and preforms worse... because the PS3 works alot different than the 360. Well I've heard. The other thing the PS3 has going for it is the odd and somewhat quirky games you can buy from PSN for rather cheap.(5 or 10 dollars) Yeah, I expect someone to flame me so go ahead. Topics like these warrant flames though. |

Brawl is awesome. A friend of mine has a japanese Wii and an imported Japanese version of the game. I'm not sure I'd say it's better than melee - I haven't had enough of a chance to play it to decide. But it's certainly incredibly fun.

That is a comment pretty much based off your own opinion of yourself, others might argue your standard really sucks.
The first system I ever got was a Xbox 360, and after the last game I bought- "BioShock", I haven't touched it. Granted the Xbox 360 has some good titles, but there is NOTHING out there that is going to make me abandon another system. And quite personally, I think that all 3 of the companies software is too expensive. I don't know where Microsoft gets off trying to charge me $15 for Doom. The Smash Brother series has always been one of those A+, hard hitting titles Nintendo has published, each one great for their own reasons. Based on the reviews I have read and the videos I have seen, I believe that the hype for the new Smash Brothers game is going to be pretty much head on. Nintendo has been releasing a lot of good games for their system lately and to even try and say otherwise is an insult to gamers who actually pay attention. No more Heroes, Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, to just name a few, and that is still more games I enjoyed playing then on the PS3. Who needs exclusive content? I don't. I don't like PC gaming to be honest. Computers are expensive, fickle creatures, who have a slew of their own problems. I don't want to buy a $60.00 game, bring it home, then take a hour and a half to install a game before I can even play it, and then worry if my system is even 'elite' enough to play it. I love the fact I can buy a game, bring it home, toss it in my Xbox 360 and I am playing in under 15 mins. And I am glad Sony lost a number of it's original exclusive content. As it stands right now, the PS3 doesn't have ANY exclusive content I'd be willing to shell out $400 to buy a PS3 for, and the rest of the games, I'll get somewhere else. To be honest I wish Sony would just get out of the game industry anyways. With their expensive hardware, outrageous system shortages that happen every time a new system is out, and their poor production quality, they are ruining the industry. |

I sense aggression in your comments~ ...:D!
In any case, to answer your question of why anyone would shell out money to make their computer '1337' enough to play a game, computers are god when it comes to media. Now see, I thought for a second it'd take me around 2,000$ to build a decent gaming PC. Then I realized that a decent case, a good motherboard, some ram, a cpu, and finally, a videocard. Totals to about 600$ today... Don't believe me? Do some research. I don't mean hit up the best computer sites either. I mean, do some research. Now think about that, why in the WORLD would anyone who has technological expertise buy a game console when they know they can get the same amount of beef from their computer while at the same time being able to do oh so much more? I am a tech guy... not the best. But I AM. Also listing Umbrella Chronicles as a GOOD game just hurts. It REALLY does. Personally, I find it to be a good milking following Resident Evil 4 and to subside the rabid fans until RE5 comes out. One of the few games Capcom has ever made that I would rather spit on than play. As for No More Heroes, I laughed my ass off when I saw that game. There isn't much more to say. The Wii has SOME good games but most of them are just utter trash and if you disagree, go to your local Walmart and tell me how many of those games you wouldn't(note that I said wouldn't not would) buy. Be truthful too. I remember an old Nintendo from when I was a kid who made nothing but pure gold. All of these third party developers are turning the Wii into the cesspool of the consoles. Personally, I think Nintendo should beef up their game screening and get all of these third party guys to stop selling crap games. |

I sense aggression in your comments~ ...:D! I am well aware of the costs of building your own home computer. I know that it dosen't cost as much as it used to, to have a half way decent gaming PC. The cost isn't just part of the problem I have with PC gaming. The maintenance and problems computers pose that a basic home system like Xbox 360 simply put me off. Although I do admit I wish home systems could be more upgradeable like PCs. That is pretty much based on personal opinion. I for one grew up with light-gun games like House of the Dead and Carnival Evil and loved them. Chronicles is not only a solid light-gun game, with multiple paths, weapons and endings, but allows a more deeper look into the series as a whole. I am a very big fan of Resident Evil and I found this game very enjoyable, although a little short. As for No More Heroes, I laughed my ass off when I saw that game. There isn't much more to say. Well I am glad you laughed your ass off, because there are a ton of people who thought No More Heroes was a fantastic game. The Wii has SOME good games but most of them are just utter trash and if you disagree, go to your local Walmart and tell me how many of those games you wouldn't(note that I said wouldn't not would) buy. Personally, I think Nintendo should beef up their game screening and get all of these third party guys to stop selling crap games. Actually a lot of Nintendo games were terrible for the time. They had much less of a standard for who published games for their system, then they do now. There were piles of games, but companies most people never even heard of, and they were terrible. Although I do recognize that a good portion of the Nintendo collections were classics. Now I could go through and list everything I wouldn't buy for the Wii, but it would just be a waste of time, because I am not worried about what I am NOT going to buy, but what I am looking forward to playing. I tell you what though, I'll tell you what I would buy for the PS3.. Ghost Busters, crap wait, that is being released for everything. Looks like there is absolutely NOTHING I would buy right now for the PS3 and I went through and looked at the entire database GameStop had. Maybe that is why I sold my Playstation 3 3 months after I had it. And honestly, it seems like you have some sort of vendetta for Nintendo, people shouldn't take what you have to say about Nintendo seriously. And before you even say anything about me being a Sony hater, that is far from the truth. I busted my ass to have a PS1, and I got a PS2 as soon as I could afford one. I have always been a big Sony fan, and I have been very disappointed with how the PS3 has been performing so far. As soon as they release something that warrents me buying a PS3, then I will buy another one. |

I wont argue the price or the small library, but shortages happened to every console in this generation when they were first released, and the PS3 has a death rate that is almost exactly the same as the Wii. My PS3(20GB first release model) is still in good health. Yes my release model PS2 needed constant tuning for the laser, but my slim model never had a problem. I don't enjoy people making cheap shots. As it stands, I do find my PS3 worth the price I payed for it($500) because it makes a great media hub, Uncharted & Ratchet where fun, and there are a lot of great games coming out for it. If you don't like the titles or don't see the value, don't go and claim it is ruining the industry. |
