I guess this could go here.
So I have been designing icons for a while, practicing out of boredom. I like to keep them organized, so I use blank states to take up the space in between, to make it look nicer, and more navigable.
ex.
X = blank
O = shield
I = sword
I I I I I X X X X
O O O O X X X X X
and so on, so everything is within the same line. My question is, does this increase the icon file size dramatically? I personally don't notice a lot from blank states, but would like, a massive amount of them spike the size up? (also, is this type of organization good practice?)

I've done that before, can't remember when, but I have. It looks sort of nice, except for the many gray squares on the right half of the screen.

Blank icon states add "dead space" to the PNG. PNGs compress dead space quite well, particularly in even multiples of 32x32 like a typical DMI.
In short, yes, they're fine. |
