Im running through some ideas for a new game and I liked this one but wanted to get some others opinions on it...

Story Background:

Before the world was created there was 4 gods that lived amongst each other. Siblings that each had control over a different element (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind). Being siblings they constantly fought over who was the best and decided to come up with a challenge to finally decide who was the best. So together they created a world and each god took a quarter of the world to shape it as they pleased. They each created the landscapes of their territory and the creatures that inhabit it. Then when everything was done they created humans shaped in their image and gave the humans in their region the ability to manipulate their element. Each god imparted different abilities and characteristics similar to their own onto the humans and set them in motion. The final race of humans to survive would be considered the winner of the competition.

Now the races have been fighting for centuries in an endless battle to beat the others.
(heres the part that im trying to decide on)
Scenario 1:
The races are in battle and players play to try and decide whos best....or
Scenario 2:
The leaders of the races find out that they are just pawns in the gods feud amongst each other and decide to join forces to fight the gods.

Gods
Fire:
God: The fire god is an aggressive powerful god. His characteristics are fierce and strong attacks. He believes a good defense is a strong offense and trained his fighting style to be aggressive and fast. He trained his humans to fight with a similar style.

Water:
Goddess:Just like water, the goddess chooses to flow with the punches. She utilizes her opponents strength and turns it against them. She is balanced in both her attacks and defense. While she is hard to hit she does not have the strength to keep going when hit, her endurance is low, but she is hard to hit.

Earth:
Goddess:Strong willed and powerful the earth goddess creates a strong unmovable base and draws power from her stance. The goddess is strong and defensive, allowing her to create strong defenses and strong attacks, but cant switch between the two quickly. Her attacks take time to pull off and leave her vulnerable while performing them.

Wind:
God:Like the wind this god is untouchable, he specializes in defense and avoidance. Always avoiding conflict and confrontation. His style is to tire out his opponents and wait for an opening. He is strong in defense but weak in attack. However he makes up for being weak in attacks by being able to perform fast attacks and seperate himself from his target.

Game Play
Players will choose a race and then a specific class from the race and then progress through the game performing quest and tasks. The races have similar characteristics as the gods and the classes will have different specializations.

Any suggestions, thoughts, comments would be nice
Well, I'm pretty sure the first thing that most people are going to think of is Avatar... I mean, the basic set up, (4 elements, 4 regions, and people who can manipulate each element) is virtually identical.

Yeah thats true but the back story and looks will change a lot, unfortunately for me there is only 4 elements and i was combining greek mythology and chinese belief on the elements and spiritual background. Guess it is similar

Most anime/stories/everything borrows some ideas from those kind of culture concepts, so that's how it is.

Yeah everything is a borrow from something but what do you think of the idea

Try to work on some unique traits for each race. Having all races simular traits, save their god/element, is somewhat bland. Try including more traits like the God of fire was a musician and extremly intellegent, while the Water goddess was a brute, and fostered a slave trade. This you could tie into some of the races tactics, and create a deeper story for the game and make the gameplay much more interesting.

I wasn't necessarily saying that it was /bad/ that it sounded like Avatar. Avatar certainly wasn't the first series to use the 4 elements thing, but, if the game isn't handled well, it may simply seem like a generic Avatar.

Ya to me it sounds like a nother Avatar game (i know you probablly heard this alot already), if you dont want to be bothered by people saying that this is merely a fan game of avatar why dont you add in some origonal things that most people haven't even thought of like, adding in more elements to the game instead of the four basic elements (somebody has probablly already done that but bare with me xD), or some completely origonal type of weapons or somthing like that ... you get what i'm trying to get at xD
