What is a feature that you would like to see in an RPG more than anything else?
For me: I like the ability to control the entire world. Meaning if I want to chop down a tree, I can. Break a wall, etc... If I feel so inclined to stab another person in the middle of a city, I can do that, but it will bring repercussions. Real freedom is my biggest draw to a game... But AFAIK there is only one game out there that offers this (RPGWO), and even then they have limitations.
What about you?

I agree that it is good to have a very interactive word. More than just tinckering with the objects around you though. I think you need to really make the world come alive through alot of NPCs that would seem to even have a personality. Lol. I'm glad you said that. Brought back a few ideas I'd had for things to throw in that offered absolutely nothing constructive, but were entertaining to discover. Things like that are important to me, though I'd forgotten. Yes, these are things that I always think about when developing. I always like to bring up and think about the developers in the NES days. You can really have some good fun when you think about that while adding secrets and such. I mean seriously, who would ever think of holding down the down arrow over a certain object to fall through and be able to walk behind everything (Mario 3)? They were clearly just having fun.

I want only two features: not a grind-fest and fun while playing. Past that I almost don't care.
However fun to play might be ruined by community, amount of players, balancing and much more :) Meaning it's abstract |
So far my favorite RPG's are games like Morrowind, and even in BYOND SS13(Mainly for its nearly complete customization and freedom through the map of building and destroying things and being really realistic). I also love games with funny randomish type things like Morrowind's no pants quest(A guy taking a bath in the river got his pants stolen). I don't care to much about graphics at all, it could be a huge crappy tile mess(Kinda like SS13 use to be). Though great features are what make a game
Fighting can be in any style good if you can pull off that style. Like Pokemon was great for its turn-based fighting system(Though I always hated FF with a passion with its turn-based combat. The originals had a VERY awesome real time combat system though). Though i've always hated the target and auto attack systems that most BYOND RPGs use. Quests are best done with one big main quest that you can decide to do whenever you want, with many side-quests like Oblivion or Fallout 3. Though a bunch of random quests that don't tie together usually are bad and is what most BYOND RPGs do. Exploring the world is always fun, with the world having hazardous and dangerous parts to it. But stuff like Cave exploring has always been a downside to me. I like having a huge free map. Creation and destruction are the best in a game. Being able to destroy and build bases is great! Though you shouldn't be able to create or destroy whole kingdoms(Unless the game is revolved around that). Destroying and making small camps or villages is a fun thing to do. Survival is fun to a point. While the game Archipelago on BYOND is fun, when it gets too realistic with eating and drinking it can ruin the game. Maybe only having to eat or drink once in a long while could be fun, but constantly worrying about that can be bad unless it's a survival game. Recreational things also are a great plus. GTA 4 pulled off alcohol usage perfectly. And it'd be fun to abuse drugs in a game, only if you can pull it off. Like Fallout 3 has drugs, though they don't do anything but raise/lower stats, while that is cool, they also should have a visual or physical effect to the user(Like hallucinations, extremely faster movement, falling down, staggering around, etc). Well that's my thoughts for the game, a little long and I ran out of parenthesis haha. But mainly if your game is fun for you, then it is a good game I think. So just have fun with it! |

*cough* single player RPG *cough*
It seems that BYOND has forgotten that you don't have to make your game multiplayer. |

Multiplayer games are such a hassel. Honestly, for me, after my experience in owning a multiplayer game and actually taking it seriously, I've grown much more fond of single player games on BYOND. Of course if you don't take it seriously and treat yourself as an overlord above the community, it might be a bit more fun for you.

Single Player games can be good, but I think whats best is having the elements of a single player game(Like the main quest) but being multiplayer.

World of Warcraft did it.
But really, there's no reason you can't just move people to EARTH v2.0 after they complete some major quest that "changes the world". |

i just want mini games. many rpgs have this feature, and there is nothing wrong with a game in game.on a plus side it takes away that boredom factor that sets in so many grind games

I also think that it's good to have a laugh once in awhile. Back in the old NES days the game developers didn't have alot of stress on their shoulders. You notice games like Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and many more have lots of crazy secrets in them. Some of them make absolutely no sense, but that's the fun of it! Have lots of fun secrets to keep the player doing wild and crazy things, and even just have some weird things thrown in for a laugh.
