Fortunately of you and everyone else, Zelda and Mario have been improved in ways that makes the first games look like crap. Not that they are crap, they just don't look as pretty.
I believe in IGNs top 100 games since 2008(They make one every few years), Ocarina of Time was rated #1. A 3D Zelda game with better mechanics, no less. If you're looking for something like Super Mario RPG.. Well, this was improved ages ago! Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, although short, is by far the greatest of the Mario RPG series, which would consist of Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door, Super Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, and Mario and Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story. I've played all of these, and I'd still have to say Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door is the best, with Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time as a close second. Now, I love A Link to the Past as much as the next guy, in fact, its one of my favourite, if not my all time favourite Zelda game(s). But if you don't want to play games like Ocarina, and want to play games like A Link to the Past.. Well, there's TONS of great ones! Forget the first Zelda game, it's much too hard.. Trust me. But, Links Awakening, although weird, is a great game. Both Oracles of Seasons and Oracle of Ages are absolutely fantastic. Minish Cap is an excellent game, and if you want some multiplayer gaming, Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures is the way to go. Also, I highly recommend 2 absolutely amazing Zelda DS games, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Now, before I list off tons of more things, I'm going to end this post with this: Try other consoles, PLEASE!! |

Frankly, I don't really have the time to play many videogames anymore. It's either play or develop, and currently I'm in the mode for developing.
I seem to have a knack for enjoying 2d video games, as they seemed to be more enjoyable - as someone said, because the graphics were crap, gameplay was highly focused on. As well, I'm not a huge fan of shooters, so Call of Duty and Halo provide me no interest - well, Halo provides a little interest :). But overall I'd rather play Starcraft 2 or a solid RPG over a shooter anyday. |

All of the games I listed aside of Ocarina were 2d, that's why I listed them. I even stated "if you don't like games like Ocarina and like more Link to the Past styled ones(not sure the exact wording), then there's tons!", or something like that. Also, again, the Mario RPG system has been improved greatly. I've seen games with better graphics than SNES with better gameplay and plot(IMO, that is). |

Honestly, with such classics as A Link to the Past, Super Mario RPG, and the original Star Fox, I think I have more fun with this emulator than any console game I have currently. Amen to that. |

Zelda and Mario have been improved in ways that makes the first games look like crap. *can't tell if serious AT ALL* Ocarina of Time was rated #1. A 3D Zelda game with better mechanics, no less. Definitely not serious. "better mechanics" and "Ocarina of Time" don't go in the same sentence. |

Most of the things I listed were just straight facts describing the games. But everyone is going to like different games.
AC2 was a massive improvement over EVERY system in AC1. The story was much better. The existing gameplay was much better. A ton of new features were added. AC1 basically boiled down to repeating the same 5 quests, and then killing a boss in a mostly pre-defined way, after sitting through a horrendously boring scene where you had half-control of your character while somebody talked, and then having to escape. AC2 got rid of all of that, greatly improved upon the free running systems, and the addition of the monetary system made the world actually worth exploring. AC:Brotherhood is a bit of an improvement over 2, but not nearly as big a leap as 2 was. If you thought 2 was identical to 1, you definitely won't enjoy brotherhood.
You weren't even hunting for that guy because he shot you, and you weren't hunting just for him, nor was that the entirety of the story.
Agreed, for the most part.
I haven't played Red Alert, but I somehow doubt that. Even if the stories were identical, it wasn't the story itself that made the game great, it was the way that control was practically never taken from the player that made it an amazing experience.
