When I was 13-16 I was able to get my parents to buy me BYONDimes on multiple occasions. Kids getting their parents to use their credit cards isn't really an issue, it's even less of a problem now that online shopping is so routine.

One thing I do agree with you about is hiding BYOND from other people. This is mostly because I'm embarrassed by the sort of content seen on this site and would rather not be associated with it. Though, this update should help alleviate that.

I reckon this is something the staff would like to change. You see indie communities, such as TIGSource and GMC (Game Maker Community) who have a much more mature/older community. Their users are willing and able to fork out some cash to either support the game developers or, in GMCs case, GMC developers.

However, shoving them under the rug just because rips are primarily made by non-members is a terrible way to go about fixing the issue. Hide the rips themselves, not BYONDs majority of users which probably have no way of giving to the project. I'm sure they would if they could.

It's obvious that the BYOND staff needs money. They could have easily asked for you to pay to use their program, but they opted to make the development tools ALL FREE. In return, they ask for users to buy a membership if they'd like their game to be featured, if it meets the requirements. If you simply dislike that idea, it's easy enough to go advertise elsewhere. We are lucky enough to be provided a FREE hub.

BYOND gives you the software and platform for your creation, and hosts a free website(hub) for it that shows the list of players logged in, and any other information you wish to have displayed. So you're telling me, that after BYOND gives you the means to have your creation made, and gives you a website to show off your game to other people, you are still too unappreciative to give them $18 to have your game in some fancy list? When Final Fantasy 1 was created, do you think they had a fancy list to put it on full of players clicking to check things out? No, they had to advertise and put themselves out on the market. The kids on BYOND have to stop relying on what BYOND has bent over backwards doing for them for the last 10 years, and start owning up for themselves. If you spent the time to actually develop your own game, you would have no problem dishing out $18 for advertisement, or marketing the game yourself. You want it in a fancy list? There are tons on the internet for you to post your game on, go out and find one yourself if you're too cheap for this one.

There needs to be tangible benefits if they are serious about charging people. BYOND's biggest concern should be getting a larger audience once the new site launches, and frankly some of the restrictions they're putting into place will make it more difficult for new users which will have the exact opposite effect.

I'm all for paying for advertisement, but the fact of the matter is once the flash client is out, I can get much better advertisement elsewhere, for free. $18 for reaching a small audience on BYOND, or Kongregate, Addicting Games, Miniclip, etc. where I get a larger audience for free.

BYOND isn't a charity case where people are going to give their money out of the goodness of their heart as people have been doing in the past. This is doubly so if BYOND moves forward trying to treat itself as a serious game development system/site where cash is involved.

I kinda snickered at how you remained self-entitled while referencing the new flash client.
