Heroes of Newerth (a MOBA game, which is a really stupid term for "DotA") is having another account sale to celebrate 500k accounts!
Instead of 30$, purchasing an account is now only 10$ for a limited time!
You get the whole game with it. Every hero/item/blabla. Naturally if futures a shop, but the only thing it gives (and I'm 100% not bullshitting you on this) are cosmetic stuff (hero skins, courier skins, icons right next to your name, that sort of thing).
It gets generally favourable reviews, but I've been playing it since retail (bit over a year ago) and am still enjoying it to date.
You've probably heard people saying how it's very competitive, which is true. But it also futures "Casual Mode", which is.. Well, for casual people :). Where everyone can get gold easier to buy those shiny items to help your team kill the other team's bas!e
All in all, for 10$, no reason not to try it out. Bring friends, though, as playing with them is just THAT much better.

I prefer League of Legends here.

I occasionally play HoN.
Not terribly interested in playing with people I don't know from BYOND though. I mostly play str heroes (and preferably tanks): Electrician, Amun-Ra, Gladiator, Gauntlet, Rampage, Pharaoh. I used to play support, but I don't really like playing support anymore. |

Meh. I've tried LoL because my cheapskate friends were afraid to spend any money. Then they did, and now they're all enjoying HoN way more.
In HoN, I find fight to be more fluent, and way more tactics involved (bigger map, animation pace faster, denying for lane control, animation cancelling, ...). I don't think there's any comparing the 2. If any, I'd say LoL is an easier version of HoN. I say easier, because there's a LOT of thing you'd have to pay attention to in HoN you don't need to in LoL. Which is fine for some people, I suppose. |

That's pretty much how I would compare the two games as well.
HoN's gameplay is much more refined than LoL. One thing I do like about LoL, though, is that LoL somehow feels more diverse and cultured. Perhaps it is the stylistic art direction. |
