Getting out the Flash client is still a goal, but I want to make good on our promise first to get some fun new features out with 500.

Out of curiosity, with the flash client, is it established how much of the regular BYOND interface it will be supporting? I've been thinking that I need to make some interface elements in Jquery that BYOND's default behavior, like I did for the output panel. Those would really help bridge the gap of whatever gets left out of the flash client, simply by inserting a JS library into the DOM of the page the flash client is running on. |
Anyone else think it would be interesting to show the total amount donated by anonymous people?

Not sure if I've seen the answer to this. Is the method of the flash client to allow people to host their own, or would it need to be used on the byond website?

Wow... It seems like we're not going to meet the goal for the second month in a row. =/

Pretty unfortunate, considering that 500 just got a public announce. I would have thought that would have put us over $5,000.

I wonder what happened first couple of months were great with the fund o meter now they have seemed to dwindle yet again.
|
That's just how these things happen, the first couple of months were people doing big donations because they had been dying to do them and had no option to, once they got that out of their system it was back to more reasonable amounts.
|
I've been penniless since the Fund-O-Meter started. Once I begin my new position in October, I can make weekly small donations as well, though not much. I just really wish I could help.

College classes start for me again so I have to save my money a bit more, so my donations are coming to an almost halt. Also with Teka he has convinced me to save moneys too haha.

I'm just glad we got the 500 release for now. At the very least, it made me a whole lot more excited about BYOND and ready to program some cool things, which is really what we need.

I'd like to recommend a better option to make money, maybe charge 3-4 dollars a month, instead of the 24 dollar option, that way people that don't have 24 dollars ont he spot can just get the 3-4 dollar a month subscription and pay like that. Subscriptions, would probably double memberships in my opinion. Collabing with some sort of gaming gift card purchasable at stores would help to, because a lot of kids play this without a debit/credit card. Such as Ultimate Game Card http://www.ultimategamecard.com/. I can't see why you wouldn't reach the 5,000 mark, with these revisions.

I'm pretty sure that it's been said about a million times already, but micropayments aren't possible due to insanely high fees.
|
$10 for three months sounds good for a 'micropayment' to me. I mean, comparing to something like Netflix or an MMO, the lowest baseline I've seen is $10/month. So $10/3 months doesn't sound bad from a value perspective or as a payment plan in my opinion. I don't have much knowledge on how BYOND works financially, but maybe something like charging to remove a 'made with BYOND' logo off the stand-alone exe, charging for an HTML5/JS export function, and such, could work in their favor in the future. Just a random thought.

Why would you ever remove a "made in BYOND" logo from your standalone? No game ever doesn't credit the engine it's made with.
