Both FUNimation and Square Enix sent a cease and desist order to BYOND. BYOND cannot support either company's IPs. DBZ is FUNimation, FF and Soul Eater are Square Enix.

You CAN make a fan game, you just run certain risk with it. Plus, as stated, BYOND has C&Ds for FUNimation and Square Enix IPs, so those aren't listed on BYOND, though you can still make an hub. Also, highly illegal to profit off of copyrighted material, so no money from the game either.

Correct, that'll likely be their first step before attempting to sue anyone. Most companies don't care unless you're profiting from their IP, like Falacy and a bunch of others were with their DBZ 'fan-games'.

Cease and Desist, meaning they tell you to stop doing something illegal or they'll take legal action against you(most commonly, just suing you).

Honestly instead of just this companies IP or that .. just make an original game thought up all by yourself! Take concepts from other games/shows if you must.. But then make a fan game I don't actually care :) but the companies might. | |
